Full story: Chicago Tribune

Desperate men do desperate things. For Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin, it made sense to give Eric Gagne a one-year contract paying him $10 million.

The way it looks, the National League Central will not be a strong division in 2008. Whoever wins, will most likely get beat in the first round again.

The Cubs could improve on 63-46? So you're saying they could win 94 games? I'll gladly take the other side of that.

New York-based ESPN radio's guys are chortling like a bunch of magpies about how great the Mets are now with Santana in the fold. We'll see if they really ARE the best team east of the Mississippi. The Cubs must score a lot more runs - and on paper they should. The pitching should be better, but the NL West is loaded.

as a 'chicago' native (and proud of it!) i am going to be very honest with all you BREWERS fans. first of all, the CUBS, BREWERS, & ASTROS have all strengthened themselves over the winter. it still come down to pitching. if lieber can come through,
i do believe that that the cubs will tke the central division.(he is probably the cubs biggest key in my
opinion) i do feel that the cubs could definitely get stronger with brian roberts. the cubs were very tired late last season as evidenced against the d-backs in the playoffs. pinella will be making sure that the cubs are well rested this year. as for the brewers, they will be extremely good this year & i'm sure the biggest competition
for the cubbies. prediction: cubs by at least 3 games (minimum)
