Duensing blows off Gardenhire as Twins blow out Royals

By the time Brian Duensing took a comebacker off his foot in the ninth inning of the Twins' 10-3 victory over Kansas City on Friday night, the left-hander just wanted to speed things along. Full Story

"That's the type of guy like a Roy Halladay, he can calm down after five innings and end up shoving it right up your behind. He's just tough, man." ..........Okay O-Dawg with that quote I will forget about the Dye comments.

Young made a nice throw to home in the early innings (Great to see him show off that arm--nice tag by Mauer, too). It's likely that someone will complain that Young is only batting .314 and managed only a sacrifice fly in the KC pummeling.
Give it time...Young's average will drop into the .270 range. So far he's played in 9 games this year and has been charged with only one error, but anyone who watches him knows that the scorers have been generous...he deserves 3.

As far as his rocket arm, on Betancourt's single to left field, Callaspo tried to score from second base. In most cases this should be considered a base running mistake, or a bad decision by the third base coach, but with Young's tendency to throw the ball into the ground off target with several bounces to reach...maybe the Royals were playing the odds!

Some managers would have been pissed. Gardy just laughs it off. I love this guy. Go Twins!

Sorry OE, I guess I shouldn't have used the "p" word. Replaced it with "gotten angry." Get real.

I watched the game. I thought it was funny and Gardenhire was smiling too. Brain showed and wanted to play which is what the Twins are all about. You gotta have the heart.

This game shows what a good hitting team the Twins are, and how potent the team can be if supplemented by good pitching. A good outing by Baker and Gurrier is quietly off to a fantastic start.

Strong armed outfielders tend to sail the ball, especially with the adrenaline going. They are coached to keep the throws down where infielders can corral the ball. The one hopper is the preferred ball to handle on throws to home. An accurate throw to home would be one aimed to bounce off the plate. Young was close.

It's hard to figure Young will hit .270 by the end of tho the season when he has a .290 lifetime batting average over a considerable number of at-bats over three seasons. Young has been a better player for the Twins in September than early in the season. But yes, he sucks absolutely and something should be done about him. He can't hit the long ball (maybe?) he's only 24, and Zeke just doesn't like him.

If you strictly went by what Kelsie Smith writes, you'd think the Twins were dominated by the other pitchers she referenced. Uh, Buerhle struggled mightily against the Twins last week; if Punto gets a hit instead of grounding into an IEDP, they beat him and the Sox. Lackey pitched great, sure, but Minny had that game tied 3-3 until the Crainwreck once again reverted to form and failed miserably, giving Boston their 6-3 win. This Twins team may just lead start to finish and end up in the World Series; they're that good.

Me thinks that the writer from Maine misses Minny but is right on about staying positive. The media is super critical and it is carrying over to the masses. This team is awesome. Very special. Lets all have fun and enjoy it. u ain't seen nothin yet

Zeke,
Delmon has a much better chance of being in the .290s than the .270 you suggest. I also believe Delmon will start to show some power and guess his HR total will end up in the high teens, with 90 plus rbi. Only a guess, of course, but you are way to negative on his prospects. I didn't see the throw that you referenced, but Delmon has a pretty good arm and will likely have close to 10 assists by season end. I will admit that he lumbers a bit and covers less ground than your average left fielder. Span can cover the leftcenter gap as well as anyone, though, which helps.

Yeah, I'd agree that the headline is a little misleading. But you all know that the writer doesn't come up with the headlines, right? And, outsider, that was completely unfair and off-base. I'm guessing you're a basement fan who think he can do the job. Am I right?

It scares me to see them get off to such a great start. Normally they play poorly in the 1st half and then catch on fire in the second half. Wouldn't it be great if they played this way all year and into the play-offs? We haven't won a World Championship in a long time. Time to get it again Twins. It sure has been fun and I can't wait until next month when I'll be back in the TC's and I can see a game at the new park.

Let's get positive after a big win. The headline should reflect the victory, or at least the phrasing could be different.

Ok everybody lighten up...the writer was having some fun at Gardy's expense while puting up a headline designed to make all of us read the article. Don't get upset just because it worked and the reporter is roflao at his own joke. KC make a number of great plays or it would have been 20 - 2. This offense has a lot of potential. Opps they just tied it up 5 -5. Go Twins.

I, for one, was glad Duensing waved everybody off. It was getting a little cold out there and the team was eight runs ahead.

It looks like there is no lingering problem since he is pitching well in relief today (Saturday).
