This season in general is going to be tough in my opinion. The tell tale signs are there. This might turn out to be one of those seasons where things just don't go right. If it remains this way, we might be seeing a whole new team next year as reagins will clean house The Angels have had great success for years but unfortunately, they are due for an average or even poor season.
It appears that management (Scoscia, Reagins etc) are optimistic that the return of Lackey and Santana and Escobar down the road will heal the wounds of a terrible pitching staff. I wonder what they'll say and do if things don't change. What if either or both struggle...then what? I don't thnk pinning the hopes of the season on 2 pitchers returning from the DL is a wise move. Though it is early in the season, it isn't too early to start to panic and perhaps make a move or two. If the Angels get too far down in the standings, it will be very hard to play catch up. I don't believe that the A's will remain where they are forever. I believe that bringing in someone like Pedro Martinez or Mark Mulder would be a good option. Shields, Arrendondo and Jepson might need to do some time in the minors. With a starting pitcher brought in, the Angels could move the guys doing the job (Oliver, Spier etc) into their slots for middle and late ining relief. Saunders is starting to look like a an ok pitcher. He started hot last year but since then has been average. Perhaps he should go to the bullpen if they sign a starting pitcher?????? The Jury is still out on Fuentes. I do not have faith that Guerrero will do much to help the team this year. Lastly, I hate to say it but the Angels record after this weekend might end up 6-12. |
