i guess this one goes on scott baker. maybe the strategy should be if there's ever a situation where a guy could kill you with a home run, just hit him with a pitch instead. that would be my approach regardless.

Baker is consistently prone to having one bad inning that usually involves giving up th elong-ball. What's frustrating is that he has been putting together some otherwise strong outings. But the results are teh same. Pitching is really the downfall of the Twins season thus far.

Aside from the Twins having trouble on the road, what about the umpires. It used to be that the
instant replay would almost always show the ump
to be correct in their calls. Now it seems that
every game they get several calls wrong. Is this
equal opportunity for the blind and infirm or are
they lazy and often out of position. Major league
baseball should look into this before it gets any
worse. It's starting to look like the NBA, which
is a farce when it comes to officiating. The home
team in baseball already has an advantage, they
don't need the 4 blind mice helping them, too.

Tybalt makes a good point although no one should hit a batter intentionally, and it's true that Baker seems very reluctant to come inside on a hitter. Maybe Baker should be more careful and walk a dangerous hitter instead of serving it up. The Twins don't want to walk anyone, but instead of throwing that strike when behind in the count, it would be better to either walk the guy or possibly have him swing at a bad pitch. Instead, Baker throws it right down the pipe. Does he really think that a guy like Longoria won't have the green light in that situation?

The Twins need a reliever who can come off the bench and put out a fire--a guy who can get the K when he needs it or the double play ball. Gardenhire has been trying to use Mijares and Guerrier in those roles, but neither inspires enough confidence.

One gripe with Gardenhire: he had Tolbert bunt with Harris on second and one out when down by three. Why does Gardenhire do that? It's not the first time. Now it's two outs and the .220 hitting Gomez at the plate. Guess what? No runs score. It doesn't make sense.

I am surprised that Tolbert struggled - he looked so good in spring training. Oh well, Casilla probably gets his job back. During the Rays series it is really hard not to miss Bartlett. Twins middle-infielders have pretty good gloves but no bats.

which means they tied the Tigers for most road losses. The Tigers finished in last place in 2008.

A .500 ball club at best. Pitching and hitting with men on base is not good, so don't get too disapointed when September comes around
