Only if they get some top notch quality pitching for Roberts and only if that is what they get! what they need to do is get rid of Dave Trembley, if you can not for 2 years in a row not keep your team from quitting and going into the tank 2 yrs in a row you should not be managing a major league team. This team quit just like they did last year and that is the managers fault, if a team loses that is one thin , if a team quits that is something entirely different, and this team quit AGAIN!!!

Let the guy go to a contender. He's too good to play with this bunch of sand lot little leaguers.

I'd try to keep Roberts but would deal, in a heartbeat, Markakis, Jones, and Tillman for Conor Jackson and Justin Upton.
This team needs elite talent and a middle-of-the-order attack of Upton, Wieters, and Jackson would strike fear into the hearts of the opposition for years to come!!
Losing Tillman would be tough but we have Matusz, Bergesen, etc. and could draft another pitcher in the first round next season.
Roberts is an elite second baseman who could contribute into his late 30's like Craig Biggio. So, yeah, I'd try to hold onto him.

First question. Will this team be a contender in the immediate future with the talent they can put around Roberts? NO. Will Roberts sign long term with a non-contender? NO. If the deal is right, should the Orioles trade Roberts. YES. In fact, they should have taken the deal the Cubs put on the table this year. At least we would have a SS.

You want to trade Markakis (who is the cornerstone of our rebuilding process) and Tillman (a pitcher that we need because we have absolutely NO pitching. If you can trade and get Roberts for that I would do it but not two really young guys who can help us in the long run. Roberts isn't going to help us in the long run. And you call yourseld a "prospect expert". What a f***in idiot.

ANYONE on this team should be available for the right price. This organization is broken and although we saw flashes of it getting better earlier this season, look at it now. Drastic changes are going to have to be made to fix things here. You don't fumble around for 12 years making bad moves and then expect it to be fixed overnight.
That said, if Roberts wants to sign a new contract to stay after 2009, I'd keep him. If he is unwilling to sign right after the 2008 season is done, he is "on the block" at the Winter Meetings. They have to get good starting pitching in return or it's not worth it.

No way should Roberts be traded. Even when you're rebuilding, you HAVE to keep SOMEBODY? I mean, when you have guys that are GREAT at certain positions (2B, leadoff), you KEEP them!! Roberts, Markakis, Jones, Guthrie --- UNTOUCHABLE!!! Sign 'em all ---- NOW!!!!

Offer me 3 prospects....SP, SS/2B and a potential power hitter and I'm trading Roberts. He has served his time as an Oriole well. If trading him can help us rebuild then forge ahead.

I think the bottom line is that he can leave after 2009 -- if we can sign him to an extension this winter, great -- but if not, then I say get the best deal possible (pitching, pitching, pitching!) Frankly, the O's can manage to be in last place with Fahey or Torres at 2nd base in 2009...

No!!! Brian Roberts should not be traded this offseason or any other. Not only is Brian the lead-off batter he is a stand-up guy. My husband and I came to the Orioles fan fest this year and were it not for Brian Roberts I would have went home extremely disappointed. Brian was the only player who continued to sign autographs until everyone in line received one. Brian is a real team player and fan favorite. Brian should remain an Oriole and show some of his teammates how to treat their fans.

Sign him to a long term deal -- keep him. If unsignable -- trade him.

What's the difference, we finish last with him or finish last without him. I think the organization owes it to Roberts to send him to a WINNER! He deserves that for being loyal to us. Let him play with a team that is going to the W.S. cause we will NEVER again see the likes of the playoffs. I can only hope that this hoerrible, pathetic, morabund, digraceful and sickening organization will take a page out of the Colt's playbook and move out in the dead of night to another city to disgraceful those fans. Afterall nobody here will miss this disgusting bunch of sorry a-holes I don't care if they turned it around next year by some miracle and did a '69 Mets. I would never root for this team under any circumstance and I'm sure alot of others feel the same way. They are PITIFUL! THANK GOD FOR THE RAVENS!!! Bye, bye zerO's,you losers.

Gotta go with Eck unless we get a proven #1 pitcher in return which is highly unlikely as Peter simply refuses to pay for top quality pitchers. Unless Peter opens the purse strings fro one of his ambulance chasing successes, they can remove half the seats at Camden Yards until we get a new owner.

BRob has been a bright spot for a otherwise dismal O's team. While I would prefer to keep Roberts any good GM must consider the future of the team so trading him is not out of the question either. The O's would have to get considerable value for him and should not just give him away. We can plug some of the numerous holes the O's have with a trade. Hopefully a strong SP, 2b/SS or excellent high level prospect(s) are what I would hope AM would receive in return for BRob

I have upper deck box seats for Friday's game. Will the ushers at Oriole Park PLEASE let me go down to the field level for a meaningless game, against a meaningless team (The Blue Jays), in another meaningless season (2008), so I can have something to brag about in my meaningless life up here in Brewster, NY? I am 42 years old, I have been rooting for The Orioles since 1971. Can I AT LEAST go to my grave being able to say that I sat in the filed level one time for an O's game? Or am I forever relegated to the upper deck, because that is all that I can afford?

PS All charitable contributions accepted. If you DO have field level seats to Friday's game, and you do not plan on going, please call The Orioles' box office, and tell them to keep their eyes pealed for an O's fan from New York that is STILL dressing up in his Oriole shirt, his Oriole hat, waving his Oriole towel, and even wearing Orange and Black face paint to a game for a team that has already lost ninety games.

As a fellow unfortunate Orioles fan who had the misfortune of being raised in New York, I'll tell you that all you need is a little "finesse" - something that your days in metro NY must have instilled in you. In other words, hang out for a few innings up in the nosebleeds then move down. In the last game I went to two weeks ago, most of the ushers were pretty well drunk by the 5th inning anyway. Don't ask, just take. There will be nobody there.

Go around to the "SCALP FEE ZONE" and get some lower box seat's for face value or less .... a couple of weeks ago, I bought 2 lower box seats, section 56, 3 rows off the field... paid face value for 1 ticket ($55.00), got the second ticket for free....
