This team SUCKS on the road – They talk big about winning it all but they can’t even beat the worthless Astros and some bum pitcher named Brian Moehler. Piniella should rip these guys a new one.

Awesome way to start the last half of the season. Squander a good pitching performance by Ted Lilly and the complete offense was a solo homer by Jim Edmonds. Of course, the Cardinals without much pitching at all, rolled along against the Padres tonight and Milwaukee looked like they were taking it to SF.

Good news is Ted Lilly pitched well enough to win this game. The bad news is the offense didnt do anything against Brian Mohler or the rest of the Astros bullpen. Unfortunatley Howry couldnt hold down the Astros in the 9th, but he seems to be only good for a couple hitters anyways. Usually Wood would come out for that spot, but he wasnt available. Maybe Gaudin moves ahead of Howry in the bullpen options. Most of the time when a Cubs starter goes 7 innings and only gives up one run, the Cubs are usually going to win that game, so im not worried about this loss specifically.

What does concern me is Fukudome, and how he has done since being moved to the top of the order back in June when Soriano went to the DL. They've batted him leadoff and 2nd since that time and he has really struggled. He's not hitting, and not even getting on base anymore. Tonight, Theriot got on twice, and Fukudome didnt do anything, leaving 3 on base ahead of Lee and Ramirez, who didnt bat with any runners on tonight. I think its time for Lou to move him down in the order, somewhere 5-8. They should move DeRosa to 2nd, or have Reed Johnson bat first and Theriot bat 2nd. The Johnson/Theriot combo at the top of the order did a pretty decent job while Soriano was out. Of course, getting Soriano back in a week will help cure all this too.

Cubs weren't patient tonight against a so so pitcher. Astros always are tough at home and tomorrow have a tough lefty in Rodriguiz. Need to be more patient.

Sabathia with just one hit given up out in San Francisco tonight. Would it not be ironic on a serious note if both St.Louis & The Brew Crew got the division & the wild card & the Cubs got sh--? Losing that all star game has spoiled any chance of a world series title for you guys. Try winning a game at Fenway Park or Anaheim or Tampa, yeah like that's gonna' happen.

Check that: Sabathia just gave up a solo home run to Aaron Rowand.....6-1 Brewers in the 8th. Inning.

I watched the Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers games tonight online. Cubs looked flat and tired. Brewers looked energized. Cardinals looked hungry. Sorry Cubs fans, by the end of July, you're going to be in 3rd place.

I wouldn't call it flat. I'd call it listless. How can you be flat coming out of the All-Star break where the AL embarrassed the NL yet again? How can you be flat against a journayman middle reliever-turned spot starter. If anything, they should be p***** off. Have the Cubs players been doing too much freelancing in Chicagoland? Like cutting CD albums of music instead of concentrating on baseball the way they did when they blew the eight-game lead to the Mets in '69? Somebody needs to play back some of the old Harry Caray singing "the Cardinals are coming tra la, tra la" like he did as a St. Louis announcer when the Cards used to chase and then pass the Cubs on an almost yearly basis. Don't like now, but that is what's about to happen yet again. Forget the Brewers and CC. It's the Cardinals who are possessed.

Now if only they could figure out a way to play all 162 games at Wrigley, this team would really be something.

There is NO WAY the Cubs should have lost this game. You cannot be a world series contender and let a chump pitcher dominate you like that. Ted Lilly did everything in his power to win a game that should have been easily winnable. The problem with the cubs in houston is they try to hit too many crushing home runs to left or right, instead of just hitting the ball normally. This translates into lots of strike outs and pop ups. I am amazed that Cubs coaches cannot see this obvious trend and do something about it. The players should be held accountable for not swinging the bats like they normally do. A 340 foot home run counts just as much as a 500 foot home run. Edmonds went the opposite way on an outside pitch and got a nice home run. Derrek and Aramis spent the whole night trying to hit monster HR's to left only to go 0 for 8. Bench these guys if they are not willing to swing the bat normally and take what the pitcher is throwing them...shameful effort...shameful...
