White Sox may have plans for Gordon Beckham

Full story: Chicago Tribune

The White Sox 's first-round pick in 2008, Gordon Beckham , was not among the names mentioned in the trade for Padres pitcher Jake Peavy, and part of the reason is that the Sox may have plans for him sooner than expected.

Gavin pitch a nice game ,it wasn't the 27 Yankees but a W is a W. Josh Fields will never be a decent MLB player period. The guy is slow ,plays lousy defense & can't hit. Id would bring up Beckham .Nix & Getz both cooling off. But at least those two at least play like gamers. But with a inept hitting coach Sox hitting won't get any better.

To the author, Dave. Please go back to writing about the local over 35 men's basketball league or maybe your favorite, quilting class. Gets your facts straight.

The White Sox's first-round pick in 2008, Gordon Beckham, was not among the names mentioned in the trade for Padres pitcher Jake Peavy, and part of the reason is that the Sox may have plans for him sooner than expected.

Not only wasn't he part of the deal -- he COULDN'T be. No professional baseball player can be traded in their first year of being signed as per MLB's collective bargaining agreement.
Good luck with your new assignment: learning the Dewey decimal system for research purposes.

Didn't Beckham sign last year (2008) and play a handful of minor league games ?

Sorbie,

The rule is that a drafted player cannot be traded with one full calendar year of his signing.

Beckham signed in August of 2008 - so he is not eligible to be traded until August 2009.

Josh Fields blows. I called it at the beginning of the year.

Why are the Sox messing with Beckhams head? They keep moving him from position to position and why are there boneheads out there who want to trade him. These are probably the same boneheads who love Brian Anderson who also XXXXX.

Shake things up, Kenny.

Gordon Beckham,Dayan Viciedo,Jordan Danks,Tyler Flowers,Aaron Poreda. Bring them all up.

Move Alexi back to second. Viciedo at 3rd, Beckham at SS and you've got your infiled for the next 5 - 10 years.

Trade Konerko NOW, while he's hot.

Josh Fields is batting a little over .200. Bring up Gordon Beckham and bring down Fields because we always give Fields a chance he does good in spring training like Anderson but when it comes to the regular season he shows us nothing and we suffer from it.

The thing that bothers me about the sox is that they don't have any legitimate players that they drafted. They have Buerhle and who else? Fields, Ramirez (signed), Anderson, Getz, etc, these guys aren't All-stars.

It shows what the Sox think of their minor league system when they trade their 2 top pitching prospects away.

No one wants to trade Beckham --- people are just citing the rules as to why Beckham CAN'T be traded.

Anyone who thinks Beckham, Viciedo, Poreda, Danks or Flowers are ready obviously isn't paying attention to their numbers.

Beckham's numbers have declined big time since the middle of April.

Viciedo is hitting .250 in Double-A.

Poreda has walked 25 guys in 8 starts.

Flowers has been a catcher for about 18 months.

Danks has played 12 games above A-Ball.

These guys are probably going to be good - but anyone thinks they're going to be good now is crazy.

The Sox should NEVER trade Beckham. If they do, the Sox organization will have the 21st Century version of the Lou Brock trade. Beckham will be THAT good - or better.

The real question is how is it possible that Kenni couldn't tell how bad this guy is?
Kenni is betting that Sox fans don't pay any attention to defense or simply don't know any better, how else can this team be explained, they are below average defensively at every single position in their normal everyday lineup and have low BA high HR players at most.
There's only so many times you can move the fences in Kenni.

Not true, he could be traded as "player to be named later" just as the reports of Beckham being traded reported.

First of all Konerko has a no trade clause and the sox need his consent to trade him, and second Konerko is doing great, why trade him at all? After Thome Leaves he will be our new DH.

Get off the ledge fellas, you sound like stupid a s s Cub fans. The season is still early. It's only May.

First, Ozzie needs to keep the players in the lineup that are hot and bench those who look lost in the batters box (you know who you are).

Second, the pitching needs to get on track. Let Pierzynski catch the lefties since he can't throw anyone out stealing a base. The lefties' pick off moves can get a little more consistent. Let Corky catch 2 of the righties on any given week. He has a better arm than AJ. And at least he'll bring some lumber to the plate.

Move AJ back to the 2 hole behind Pods, keep Dye at the 3, Paulie at cleanup, Thome at 5, Alexei at 6, Brian at 7, Josh at 8 and Getz/Nix at 9.

Keep Betimet on the bench until Thome needs a day off. Take his glove away immediately. If Josh continues to look lost, bring up Becks and try him at 3B. It won't hurt his development. An infielder is an infielder, especially the SS/3B combo.

GO SOX!!!!
