KEISSER: Dodgers go back to future

Full story: Long Beach Press-Telegram

Dodgers owner Frank McCourt is hedging about re-signing Manny Ramirez even though he personally carried them to their first postseason success since the president was named Reagan and the Dodgers had a hero ...

Its been a long 20 yrs. and the future looks even better then ever, if only Ned and Frank can get their heads out of each others butts. To have Manny stay and to keep the four best young players < Russell, Matt, Andre, and James > in baseball stay and grow together would be so so sweet, however who cares about having a great champion ship team when there is a butt load of $$ green $$ to be made, RIGHT Frank!! well i bet he will have a lot of time to think about that and count all of his cash < what he has left of it > when the fan base drops and Frank can be one of 9,000 fans < myself included > sitting in an empty ball park watching a sub .500 team play and wondering how to make his next buck < buy selling $15 hot dogs or just selling the team....... Tip for Frank ... you need to spend cash to make cash!!!

u don't think the dodgers are gonna be players in the cc derby(wants to play in la area and pref. nat. league-possibly for less$) colletti has already stated he wants furcal back and furcal wants to stay. blake has also said that he could be very interested in staying as long as the dodgers are interested. the funny thing is the dodgers could have a lower payroll and still resign manny and sign cc(other expiring contracts include Loaiza, another pitcher played for reds this year, i forget his name). if they resign manny then they can trade pierre which can save about 5 million which is saying they pick up about 3 of it. manny likely is gone. as much as i would like for 4yrs 100$ to be enough it wont matter if he wants to go to ny. if that's the case say high to cc, resign furcal and blake and decide about the outfield(pierre or more pop). that leaves u with a 5 man of cc,bills, kuroda, kershaw, and macdonald. c) martin 1)loney 2nd)dewitt) ss)furcal, 3rd)blake and an outfield with kemp, ethier and athird to be named. if all that happened they would still be under the salary they had this year with the ability to still make some moves, which they've shown they're willing to do(for better or worse). will all this happen? i don't know but it's all very possible, way more possible than your doomsday remark about two more decades before we do it again.

If McCourt doesn't sign Manny, I wish him lots of luck justifying it to the fans.
