Too bad the real decision-makers, the McCourts were not there. Instead of spending their time at one another's throats, perhaps they could put the club into a temporary trust, run by anyone but Bud Selig, so that the value of the team would not be destroyed. It is in both their interests to maximize the value of the team, since one (or both) of them will wind up owning it after the divorce. And, as they learned, maximizing value means fielding a winning team that has a chance in every game.

So was there a response to Scott Elbert and James McDonald? If one of those two develop and Kershaw finds the strike zone, I don't think anyone in the league can match the depth of a rotation with billingsley/kershaw/kuroda/mcd onald/elbert/stults/haegar...a nd all with plenty of gas left...kershaw has best lefty 'stuff' of our generation, better I think than santana, but has to prove he can throw strikes...billingsley has ace stuff...mcdonald and elbert aren't far behind, but have to find the strike zone...stults haegar can go out and put up 3.50 era seasons at the end of a rotations - can't ask for more than that. sure, throwing a sub 3era guy in there would help, but where you going to get it? Dodgers youngsters have more talent than anyone available, unless detroit is willing to part with Jackson or the Mets want to part with Santana...

Actually Ed, if they're trying to buy each other out, it is in each of their best interests short term to run the team into the ground to poison the value of the team for the other and make it affordable for buyout.
