Red Sox fans say bye to legendary Steinbrenner

Full story: Lowell Sun

To Boston fans, he ruled a real-life "Evil Empire," buying championships with his unlimited resources, luring the best players and taunting the Red Sox when he scored yet another big-money free agent.

I want to respect the Steinbrenner family because someone special to them died. I respect that. I am an avid Red Sox fan but I will not stoop to the level of bashing the guy for trying to do what he needed to to win. You have to believe that George was a winner and who doesn't want to win? May he rest in peace. GO SOX!

People don't mention how he side stepped the luxury tax by building that stadium. He has destroyed baseball for smaller market teams. I don't know him but i am glad he is gone . he was a snake.

When it comes to trying to buy championships, the Red Sox are not exactly slouches themselves. I wonder how many people who vilified Steinbrenner's free market approach to MLB are staunch free-market Republicans.

One thing about Steinbrenner, he might have payed some players too much money but if they didn't produce at least he had the balls to call them out and to tell them to ship up or to ship out. (RIP)

Gay-rod and Mark T are the big part of the evil empire. They sold their souls to join the Yankees. They are not True Yankees like Jeter, Rivera and Posada. The Yankees SUCK

Thanx to all the tributes to the Evil Empire, the All Star game was a ratings flop. Not gonna end anytime soon though, look to the Yanks eliminating Texas in the ALCS then sweeping whomever comes out of the N.L. It's what Bud Selig thinks will save baseball.

For your information, Alex Rodriguez was acquired in a trade with the Texas Rangers and he did not come cheaply. They had to part with slugger/base stealer Alfonso Soriano and prospect Joachin Arias who now appears to be coming into his own with the Rangers.
