The Cardinal organization knows how to spend their money right. I was happy that they offered Albert big bucks to stay, but happier that they didn't try to compete with the big coastal money. The Yankees spend 3 times as much on their players, but it just goes to show that the World Series cannot be bought. There's more to baseball (at least in the St Louis) than throwing money at the situation and expecting magic.

Pujols' wife wanted to open a boutique shop in Beverly Hills, and told Albert to take a deal from an LA team so that she could accomplish that. Perhaps her new business on Rodeo Drive is having difficulties, or there are some related marital problems that are affecting Albert and distracting him on the field. Also remember that Adam Dunn had a horrible year in 2011, after switching to the AL. This year Dunn is putting up much better numbers. Perhaps Albert Pujols also needs a season to adjust to the new league and new team.
