Remember all the concern and heavy breathing about Johan Santana and would he start opening day? Would he be ready for the season? What would happen if the injury got worst?
Players miss time. It doesn't mean the end of the world. Actually, if Pelfrey misses a start or two it will rein in his innings pitched for '09. A diagnosis of tendonitis is almost welcome news. It at least means that Pelfrey won't have to go to some mystic to find out what's wrong with his delivery and it explains the lack of zip on his fastball. |

I always thought it was odd that Jerry would put Pelfrey No. 2 in the order. I always thought that was reserved for Maine. I think the Mets overreacted about Maine's slow start. He'll be fine and should be No. 2 and Pelfrey No. 4.

Does anyone know the status of Redding's estimated return time from the DL?

Yes, Pelfrey is a concern, but Perez is a liability. If Davidoff thinks that Perez is anything other than a suspect pitcher, then he proves he's clueless about baseball.
I would put Pelfrey number three before Perez any day. Actually, if Hernandez keeps pitching well, I might put him number 2. I see trouble with this pitching staff. I knew it before the season started and blame Omar once again for only addressing one area of need (the bullpen). This team needed much more of an overhaul during the off season starting with getting rid of the 2nd baseman and possible trading Reyes (acts like a child)for some good talent. Also, Delgado is old, they should have picked up a younger first baseman. Make no mistake, this team is nothing like any championship team from the 80s and early 90s. |

ok, can't wait till mets make playoffs this year, nostephan fan getting really annoying, also who cares what yankees do with their pitching, apparently they dont even let their fans take pee when they have to lol
. Are you a Mets fan???????? I think not. You are complaining about Delgado, you are an IDIOT. He's hitting over 400 with double digit RBI's |

Funny, I read the article, but it doesn’t say anything - Does anyone know if Newsday is hiring?? Is there an editorial staff in Newsday? My nine year old could have written a better story. Ken when we want your option we will beat it out of you….

Wake up dude. This guy is a pretender. How convenient for him to start doing better after Willie leaves. Give me a break. He has some kind of grudge or chip on his shoulder, which they do not need. I do not trust this guy. Let's talk at the end of the season again. Remember, it's only been 8 games. |

Yeah the Yankees stick to their innings guidlines, look where that's gotten them: Hughes constantly injured and now relegated to AAA, Chamberlain's shoulder a question mark while he's never been trained to pitch 180-200 innings and has trouble getting past the 100 inning mark, and 240 million spent on Sabathia/Burnett to fix the problem. [sarcasm] I sure wish the Mets went that route [/sarcasm]

Maybe come August during the trade deadline, the Mets could go after Doc Halladay if the Jays fall out of the AL EAST race. Could you imagine Johan & Big Roy 1 & 2? Yowsah. As far as the Wichita Lineman goes, hopefully it's minor & he'll be back on the mound very soon. Skip him a start if you have to, it's just the beginning. He's only 25 & will only get better. Injuries are part of the game. you just hope it's temporary not a season ender. Nice performance by Cuckoo friend & Ollie last night. Can he become more consistent? Lord knows. It's time he focuses more & stop losing his thought when something goes wrong. That's why Johan is so good. Ollie can be as well if he gets his head out of his ass. Maine tonight against Peavy. Good matchup. LETS GO METS!!!!!

Pitch counts are over-rated. Stop babying these guys. Seriously, once you are over 100 innings, what is another 50? They get six months off per year, is that not enough time to recuperate?
Some other major differences...
Pelfrey is getting paid much less than Perez and his expectations are much lower. Anything Pelfrey does well is gravy. |
Anyone else notice all those empty seats around the stadium and especially behind home plate? What a joke. How is it that every other company can identify the recession and lower prices while the Mets think everything is fine.
The Mets have the highest paid team in the National League. What kind of GM do you have that can't put together a dominant team with that kind of payroll?
I have always been an Oliver supporter. I even lobbied for the trade from Pittsburgh on WFAN several times. I am much more concerned about Pelfrey.
The fact that Oliver had that kind of performance with Murphy in Left and Sheffield in right and he wasn't derailed was an acheivement in itself
But he's Big Pelf....he's the greatest.
He's hitting over 400?? Hahahaha...its April 16th... Him and about 50 other guys |
