Relatively minor deal. Hendry is finally getting rid of prospects that never panned out. First, Pie now Cedeno. Don't know much about Heilman but he has started in the big leagues and is a veteran. In fact the Cubs are picking up relatively young veterans right and left. May one or two of them pan out.

This is a stupid trade. Maybe one or the other, but both Cedeno and Olson? For Heilman? He was really bad last year, and he's not getting younger.

Besides, apparently Olson was an important part of any suspected Peavy deal. This basically confirms that Peavy won't be a Cub.

I can't see how this move improves the Cubs. True Cedeno isn't an impact player, but Heilman is a negative impact player. I'd take Olson over Heilman any day. Unless there is more than meets the eye, this has been a disappointing offseason

Cedeno is a solid player.
I'd have loved to have him on the Sox.

Great move for the Cubs. Aaron will be a quality back end starter given the opportunity.

I don't mind this deal but I do have to ask, what is Lou going to do when Aramis needs to miss a week with his annual hamstring injury? You're down to 4 true infielders (Ramirez, Fontenot, Theriot, and Miles) and only Ramirez has extensive time at 3B.

Miles has played 11 games in his career at 3B
Theriot is at 9 games
Fontenot is at 0

So....
Basically this means the Cubs gave up Pie + Cedeno for Heilman.
Brilliant :0
Talk about selling low on former top prospects.

I don't really inderstand this trade, the Cubs give up a potential 10 to 15 win pitcher, and a pretty good hitting second Basemen, for a pitcher who struggled towards the end of last season, not to mention giving up 10 homer in 76 innings worked? He'll do very well here, especially on the days when the wind is blowing out, at this point he'll surpass his last year's total of 10 gopher balls, he may double that amount playing in Wrigley. At this point we should've just kept Felix Pie in the first place.

what is Hendry doing?
stupid move. You basically move Pie and Cedeno for (1) reliever who was really bad last year. Who is supposed to back-up Therior if he goes down to injury or if he starts off bad? Nice Move?? If you want a 5th starter, you have one in Marshall!! I JUST DON'T GET IT.

What's going on? So basically they trade Pie, Cedeno and Olson - all three young guys - for a 30-year old guy who hasn't started in three years and may not make the rotation?? Makes zero sense these last two moves.

We should also keep in mind that Heilman has done nothing but complain about his desire to be a starter. If the Cubs don't give him that chance, I would expect him to do the same in Chicago. So a decent utility man and a pitcher the Padres coveted for a malcontent? Don't see the logic.

Side note -- mlbtraderumors had a blurb about the Cubs being interested in Juan Uribe. Kenny Williams must be ecstatic to hear that.

terrible trade.
what kind of deal is this other than to dump cedeno, who is a solid utility guy.
but then you throw in a young lefty with potential ... both for a middle aged, below average middle reliever?????

Jim "Tommy Boy" Hendry could have gotten a king's ransom for Pie, Cedeno and Rich Hill last season - at the very least he could have gotten Brian Roberts. Now he essentially trades Pie and Cedeno and for a mediocre at best middle reliever. Niiiiiiiice.

I wonder if Rich Hill is still "untouchable" as Tommy Boy deemed him last season (when the Roberts deal was being discussed).

This trade I do not understand. What this team needs is a starter, not another reliever.

Oh, no! The Cubs traded Cedeno *and* Olson? For Heilmann? Now they'll never win the World Series!
Come on, people. Get a grip.

If he couldn't pitch in a pitchers park like shea with New Yorkers constantly booing him, how the hell is he going to pitch in Wrigley with a bunch of drunks screaming at him? Oh, I forget, we're talking about the cubs. Maybe they'll finally get Peavy when hes 39 and washed up.

As a New Yorker who also follows the Mets, I think this is a really, really horrible move. Heilman was terrible last year and has never been a big game pitcher. He wants to start games and is sulky as a reliever. He also gives up a lot of home runs, a stat unlikely to improve at Wrigley. All around bad move.

Heilman must be the player the Padres want, and he'll be traded for Peavey. Either that, or Old Style put up some money to bring him here.
