Love this move. It's a no brainer. Although he'll be the 8th inning set up man for K Rod, JJ Putz is very solid for the pen & can even be the 9th inning closer should K Rod be out for a small period (God hope not another Wagner) or struggle for a time. It could be Rivera/Wetteland shades of the 96 Yankees. Aaron Heilman got his wish going to Siberia as far as you can be away frfom Queens. Seattle Wa where no one will stay up to watch a late game. As much as I disliked Heilman, he was a straight up guy, no dummy being a Notre Dame alum. I can only wish him the best. Ditto for Endy. Will forever remember the Game 7 catch in the NLCS in 2006 which sadly the Mets lost the pennant with Beltran taking the called 3rd strike from Wainwright. he'll always have a warm place in my heart. The others ntohing to ride home about although I hate to see Joe Smith go. He did a nice job in Queens & I'll bet he'll be a good setup for Kerry Wood in Cleveland. More work though Omar. Try to get more bullpen help, rid Schoeneweis, get another starter, get a second baseman & a decent outfielder. JJ Putz welcome to Queens.

Nah, we need Schoeneweis around to keep things interesting in those great games where we have a 10 run lead going into the eighth. As W-Fan always says: anxiety that only a Met fan can appreciate.

Great moves though shoring up the bullpen Omar! One more good starter, and hopefully the teams holds together enough to pull out a few championships while we still have some youth! Let's go Mets!

K-rod & Putz is a real good start for Omar. Philly fans can't be too pleased to hear this. Congrats

This is the best Xmas gift Omar could give Met fans. I'm sure Heilman will do okay in Seattle and like you said Endy will always have a place in met fans hearts and Smith did okay but we still need to get rid of Schoenweiss, although his contract might make it hard... I'm hoping they look for a starter now although they might have to pay for Perez or whomever..

Not only that but the print edition has a picture of Castillo instead of Endy Chavez.. If only the picture was correct and the name in the article wrong.. Now I'm getting REALLY greedy!

Great job,Omar! He solved two big problems with this trade. One,
HE GOT RID OF HEILMAN!Two,he brought some new arms into the bullpen, especially a legitimate setup guy/future closer. And you're wrong,David-they can still trade Schoenschmuck. But now
I'd keep Sanchez and Feliciano.Sorry,Boras, bur we haven't exactly seen this big interest in Ollie P.I think he'll be back
If not, there are other guys out there.I say give Jon Niese a chance as the fifth starter.Let's see what he can do.The other
guys were all expendable.Reed can take Endy's place, and Evans can play first if Delgado gets hurt,so Carp is no great loss. This was a great trade,Omar. Now keep it going1

Gread deal for the Mets. They gave up nothing and got a high quality reliever whichi they sorely needed.

Also, don't sleep on Reed. I'm not sure how many Met fans have seen him play, but he is nice player with excellent defensive skills.
Kudos man

I am a Yankee fan but I must say that Omar has had a great offseason so far. The starters only need to go six. This will make Johan unbeatable.

Looks like if the Mets can get a lead by the sixth (and they should) they should be able to lock down most of those. And with Heilman gone, those percentages just went way up.

what about another starter? is it just me or are ollie perez and his agent out of their minds seeking a 5 year deal for 75 mil? let him go. 15 wins was nice, but it was one season. for a guy that is so erratic, I wouldn't come close to giving that type of money. guys like derek lowe are proven and have done it when it counts most.

Phillies are more concerned with the moves of NL teams that actually made the playoffs... Muts don't qualify

Could someone please just face up to the fact that Putz does not have a name to pitch in New York. It's not like he's the Stork or anything.
