Aramis Ramirez leads Chicago Cubs to 8-5 victory

Full story: Chicago Tribune

Aramis Ramirez may never be back to 100 percent this season, but he's seemingly ready to carry the Cubs offense anyway.

Can we now admit that Gregg is a ***mistake*** and we NEED a closer with stones?

I may be a homer but I would sure like to see Wood back in Cubbie blue. Bet that would turn his year around pretty quick. Yeah he's signed at $10M / year but that would be cheap compared to the $s wasted on Soriano, Bradley, etc.

Have to sweep the Reds, with the Cards in Philly this weekend, we have a legit shot to be in 1st after this weekend. And yet, all the white trash sox fans and hillbilly Cards fans will still be posting here....

Well, maybe, since we all have dropped our expectations of the Cubs so much, they'll actually lighten up and do something this year...

Naaaa, aint' gonna happen!

1st of all - IF Gregg were perfect, the Cubs would only have 3 more wins
2nd of all - Gregg actually has been pretty good lately, he was due, and I guess Lou figured to get that out of his system today with a big lead.

However, i would have figured he'd give Smazjdidai another chance with a big lead, not waste an effort by Gregg.

3rd it looks like ARam may be coming around, with a little space between him and Lee in the batting order and they may score a few more runs.

Just need to find a way to minimize Hill and Soriano and Bradley.

The irony of Holliday signing is that he was considered a bad signing becuase he was underachieving with a OBP near 400, battin .287 and had only 50 or so RBI.
and I thought wow, that would be near the top of the list on the Cubs in production and OBP.

The Gregg haters should go away, the guy has been perfect lately and he had a little blip on the radar today with a 5- run lead but still got the job done, get over it, he's our closer until Marmol can consistently throw strikes

That is a very misleading stat. Don't let blown saves be the tell all stat. Don't forget games like Atlanta where the Cubs were down 2-1 going to the ninth, then Gregg gives up two more to make it 4-1. He doesn't get the loss or blown save, but blew any chance they had of coming back.

Also when the Cubs were up 5-0 to Houston in the 9th, he gives up 4 and doesn't get any outs. Have to yank him in the 9th.

A solid win for sure. Need another tomorrow. Hope that Philly can come through this weekend. Cards got a good player in Holliday...let's see what happens for the Cubs.

Another Irony Alert:

Wells pitches 4 close to perfect games gets ZERO run support and loses most of them.

Lately it seems that the league catching up to him as he is averaging now about 4 runs a game and now he has won 6 in a row.

Take it when you can get it.

It seems Hart is now the no run-support guy, having an ERA under two and being 1-1.

And Yes, I forgot that Gregg has had his hand in at least 3 other "loses" although he doesn't get the "loss".

Yikes .... is this a bad post.

Through yesterday Gregg has a 1.52 ERA for June and July ..... how can you possibly expect anything better than that? Esp as his early season struggles were due to a knee injury.

Wood has an ERA over 5 and it appears his career is done.

Lets think about Kerry Wood about coming back for a minute.

Indians made a mistake giving Wood $20 million. We can trade for Wood, if the Indians pay 75% of his remaining salary.

Wood might get a positive boost being back with the Cubs. Being back with his friends, the fans and the city.

Rothchilds might get Wood's mechanics back on track.

I would take that chance if I was Hendry.

So I'm watching the replay of the game tonight, and I noticed that Whiffpaiur lived up to his name again. Bases loaded, one out, and he whiffs yet again. Trade him quick before everyone else catches on. We might still be able to get a bag of new balls for him now, instead of whats he's actually worth - half a bag of used batting practice balls.

Aramis is awesome. The only hitter the Cubs have that truly scares opposing pitchers.

I know injuries are part of the deal, but if he hadn't been hurt the Cubs would be 5 up in the division. Maybe more.

Go Cubs.

Now I see. Cubs win. There are 14 posts from their "fans" here on Topix.

Yet, there are about 50 of you on the Sox board talking about our loss to the Tigers and not your own win.

Classy, so so classy...

Happy Anniversary.

Went to the game at Fenway tonight...first time back there in 20 years. The contrast to Wiggly is white to black. Astonishing what they've done to the park and the surroundings...a marvelous job, and aside from the game itself, they make going there a really entertaining experience. Wiggly remains a dump...no a total disgrace by comparison. Then there's the obvious contrast of the teams on the field. Those are happy Bosox fans in the stands. Winning has relieved them from the angry anxiety which permeates the Wiggly atmosphere. And the Boston fans sing a whole lot better than you fluubers. Sweet Caroline.

Yep, he is real garbage, and once Fox gets more times at bat, you'll see the same thing from him. The dumbest flubbers posting on this threads are the one who keep ragging on lulu to give these guys and Fuld more pt

how can you hate on gregg and call for wood...gregg is dominating wood in every category...for some reason every closer gives up runs in nonsave situations, he shouldnt have been in.

For every game like the Atl game where he made it from 2-1 to 4-1 dont forget about the 5 out save he had (where he got ryan howard out with bases loaded up one run, then went 1-2-3 in the 9th) or his 4 out save the other day...gregg's been extremely solid since the first month

GET OVER WOOD...HE SUCKS NOW

I disagree with you about Fox. He doesn't try to hit the ball on the street every time like Whiffpauir does. And he seems to be capable of hitting a breaking ball and not chasing fastballs off the plate. He'll also draw a walk if given the opportunity, something Whiffpauir seems totally incapable of doing. But I've noticed that since Derrek Lee heated up, all the "dump him and start Micah" idiots have shut. Thank God for that.

I'm glad you had a good time at Fenway; I'd like to go to a game there one day. But I'm disappointed that you used your enjoyable experience to send yet another insult at Wrigley. Leave it alone already. It's a nice ballpark in a nice neighborhood, and going there is a pleasant experience every time I go.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Gemini

Maybe it's pre-Christmas tension but people can turn nasty in the blink of an eye today. This is especially likely if they've got a lot on their plate or they think they're very important, and you may have to treat them with kid gloves if you want to avoid getting sucked into a bad-tempered war of words. Some gentle humor may help to rescue the situation before it descends into acrimony.
