If you can steal a pitcher like the Cubs stole Harden,
Cubs will realize that Harden is a bullpen killer. You'll see. No wonder he was a "steal."

I don't think I'm alone in this and it seems to be a taboo to bring up, but is anyone else concerned about the sox pitching staff?
it's not "taboo" to talk about a starting pitching staff that
is disintegrating.

Paulie needs to stay, He's coming back to form and I seriously believe that he was hampered by his thumb. You can't trade him anyways because of his no-trade, but how can you trade a guy who gave up a more lucrative contract to stay here? Nick may be better defensively, but he strikes out way too much and at least Paulie can get the occasional sac. fly.
And Alexei? If this guy doesn't get rookie of the year I'm gonna stab someone on the BBWA.
I agree with Mike on both counts: Alexei is making a strong case for ROY. The BBWA will probably give it to pretty boy Evan Longoria. Haven't watched EL enough to know if he deserves it, but if he's going to beat out Alexei, he'd better be damn good, that's for sure.

I agree, too, that Paulie deserves continued support. He went 4-4 last night, for crying out loud! The guy was playing injured for most of the 1st half, and he's just now getting back to form. I'd put money on him to get hot during the 2nd half.

This is a little off subject, but one time I happened to mention that Kenny Harrelson,"Hawk" to most of you, was a pretty good ballplayer in his day. Well, somebody jumped all over me for saying that, and said that he was just a marginal player. I didn't think so, but I didn't say anything because it had been a long time ago and I wasn't sure. In the meantime I have had a chance to research Harrleson a little.
All this took place way before most of you can remember, or maybe even before you were born, So here is the story on Kenny Harrelson.--
In 1967 Harrelson played for the Kansas City A's and was released on the spot for saying that the A's owner, Charlie Finley, was "A menace to baseball," which in my opinion was the truth.
Seven teams approached Harrelson; the Red Sox, in the thick of a pennant race, won him with a $73,000 bonus, a sum, as I said in a previous post, that was un-heard of at the time. But Harrelson turned out to be worth the money as he helped the Red Sox to the '67 pennant.
Now as far as being a marginal player -- In 1968, he hit 35 home runs and led the AL with 109 RBI's.-- so much for him being a marginal player.
Boston fans picketed Fenway Park in protest early in 1969 when Harrelson was traded to Cleveland. He played grudginly for the Indians, until he quit in 1971 to become a pro golfer; which is where the person that said he was marginal, might have gotten the idea, because that turned out to be a total failure, like Michael Jordan becoming a professional baseball player -- Two sports where they both made "fools of themselves".
Uh, Yes, then he became an outspoken broadcaster, and believe it or not, was the much-critized White Sox General Manager!
Now that is the story, in case anybody was interested, on Kenny Harrelson, but at least it didn't cost you any money to read this.
I personally like Kenny Harrelson, because, like me, he is the last of the Individualists.

'Marginal' sounds about right.

Let me amend that: he was about average, for the times. Nowadays, he definitely would have been considered marginal. Too bad he quit--he posted some decent numbers, his last two years with the Red Sox.

You know "R" there is nothing quite so irritating as talking baseball to a condescending orangutan that knows nothing about the game.
I will tell you right up front, no matter what the 77 team did, as if that has anything to do with a team 31 years later, that I think that the Sox are going to win it all, with just what they've got on the roster now.
And what is more, I'm not impressed with your French, if that was your intention; but if you insist on speaking French, why don't you go over to the Soccer board and post there.
I think you must have played that game yourself and butted the ball one time too many with your head, at least if what you are posting to me means anything.

Stick with the Sox
What's the deal, Dragon? Don't flame me, just because I mention something like 'caution'. This team is NOT a world-beater. In fact, while they've done well, versus below-average teams, they are barely .500, versus the teams on their par. The Sox have worked hard, to get to where they are at--they haven't exactly cruised, to their present position, you know.

Forget '77--how about '06? Remember them? Best record in baseball, shortly before the break? Favorites to repeat as Al champs. Not only did they tank, second half, but that slump lingered, for another season, after that.

Is that recent enough history for you? Or, do you have Alzheimers?

Given your response, no wonder I labeled you, like I did. Get a grip.

Why? I'll tell you why, because this board is infested with a bunch of French speaking orangutans that "don't know their a ss from a hole in the ground" about baseball, thats why!

why you talking trash about konerko. i dont get it. he is struggling this year but what player dont in their career at some point. in the past 4 years he has hit at least 30 home runs a season and over 100 rbi's except one for 07' and has a career feilding percentage of .995. all of a sudden he gets in a slump and he sucks. way to go on having faith in your team. he has been the best player on this team since he came here in 99' except for frank thomas.
2005 was a long time ago. Ozzie cares about 2008. Konerko can't throw to 2nd base to turn two and today he goes 0-6 when the rest of the team gets 22 hits on 9 innings. That is unreal. Paulie won't be playing first base for the Sox if he can't hit. I don't care what he did in 1999. Neither does Kenny. Swisher is so much better than Paul at firstbase and Wise and Anderson are much better in CF than Swisher. Anyone with baseball knowlege knows that.

i have to agree with james. paulie strikes a lot less than swisher and has played injured most of the first half. i continue to support him and havent lost faith.
