It might be interesting to see how many innings contending catchers had behind the plate compared to Mauer. Mauer seemed to be a better fielder last season, but he did catch a good number of games this season despite missing a month of baseball. Although Mauer should win the MVP award, and most of us agree that he deserves it, the Gold Glove might be arguable. One would have to take the time to look at all the numbers.

The story about Kelly is almost breathtaking. He managed 16 years, had a
.478 winning percentage,(losing over 52% of his games) only made the playoffs
twice in 16 years, and won manager of the year once..........
and he is up for the HALL OF FAME??????

Guys like Bert Blylevyn can't get in with 287 wins and a 3 something lifetime
ERA, and Kelly is up for it with 2 playoff appearances in 16 years and a
losing lifetime record. BEAM ME UP SCOTTY!!!

Kelly is a hero to many of us who witnessed the 1987 and 1991 World Series victories, but one has to agree that Kelly's over all credentials are less than stellar. Kelly's winning percentage should be a problem. And, it's agreed that denying Blyleven a spot in the Hall of Fame doesn't seem right when one considers his numbers, along with World Series appearances.

Don't get me wrong; I remember those years too and loved
every minute of them. I also love Mauer and am absolutely
amazed by his first few years. But what if he slipped to
average output for the rest of his career (he won't of course);
would these first few years alone qualify him for hall of
fame? Of course not. Kelly had a great team the first few
years of his career and they won it all twice. But he never
went back to the playoffs the rest of his career and actually
lost more than he won. One of the best teachers in the
game and if that category ever qualifies for the hall of
fame he will have my vote, but manager? You have to win
consistantly and he didn't.

Love the guy, but I still care about the quality of the Hall.

The individuals who win the award know about it roughly two weeks before the award is actually given so that they can make preparations to have their family and friends present if needed/wanted.
So, again, why would that make him change plans for a Nov. 1st game? Doesn't make any sense. It doesn't take two weeks to make an airline reservation.

Yes he has won the AL Most Valuable Player Award already because he was suppose to be going to the Packers vs Vikings game at Lambeau Field and I had purchased the tickets next to him because my 12 year old brother is a huge fan of him after meeting him in Florida a few years ago and he had to cancel out in the last minute because he had to go and except the award. Congrats Joe
In your original post, you said he canceled out to go accept the award. Where did he go to accept it-- in a broom closet? What color is the sky in your world?

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Sagittarius

You're in a sensitive mood today, so you need to choose the company you keep very carefully. Resist the urge to believe only what you want to believe and to disregard the rest, even if something is so obvious that it's staring you in the face. Do not bury your head in the sand or avoid anything unpleasant, because you'll have to face it sooner or later. The more you resist doing this now, the more difficult things may be further down the line.
