He was too fast for his own good. It's too bad he couldn't learn from his mistakes.

Great deal!! One of these outfielders had to go and now we have a shortstop. If Hardy doesn't pan out we can scoop up someone after the all-star break next year like a Cabrera. I don't think he will get much of a raise through arbitration after his 2009 performance and he is a better fielder than Cabrera. Even if he hit like he did last year he is no worse than the platoon we put at short before cabrera showed up. Bill Smith.....you have my stamp of approval on this one. Now go sign John Lackey or at the least resign Pavano.

They (Gomez and Young) should have both been sent packing to Milwaukee, for a SS and an OF. Who knows, maybe they will trade Young later in the off season. One can only hope.

I will take this deal, it seems like it has potential, but I still do not understand why so many fans are so hard on Delmon Young. He is still young and had a great finish to the end of the season last year.

They should have traded Punto, or threatened to trade him unless he agreed to stop sliding into first.

Sliding into first!!!!!Why
Wouldn't you just like to reach out and pop him across the head when he does that?

Gomez was fast, but his ability in the field was over rated. He misjudged fly balls and his jumping was poorly timed. You add this to base running gaffes, wild swings and failure to improve, it's no wonder he was traded.

Delmon is going to keep improving. Did you all notice how much better he looked at the plate once he spread out his feet in the batter box. He's much more balanced with alot more power. I'm looking forward to his progress next year. By the way, nice trade Bill Smith!!!

Thank God he is gone. I grew tired of watching this fool. He couldn't wait to make a base running mistake. Wasn't smart enough to realize speed kills when you don't have a clue how to use it. Go-Go GONE!!

A great deal. Lose a little late game defense, but a defensive OF specialist can be found cheap, might even have one in the minors who can field but not hit. Delmon and Kubel in LF is far better than Delmon and Gomez, gives Kubel a chance to play in the field more, which will make him happy.
If Hardy is anywhere near what he was a couple years ago, it is an upgrade at SS, even over Cabrera. If he hits .260 with a little power, the Twins can live with Punto and Casilla at 2nd as well.
Now just get a horse for the rotation and the team will be a contender again.
Good job Bill Smith, Hardy at his worst is better than Gomez at his best so far.

Hey Tom,

I like your idea better.
I still can not figure out why Punto is on a major league roster. I think he must have pictures of Billy Smith with farm animals!
