If your neighbor had cancer and needed someone to cut his grass would you volunteer. Not every problem is solved by a person themselves.
A healthy society is a place where people extend themselves to one another. You may be on the receiving end one day and you may not but you should want life to be good or everyone in your community.Sometimes that does mean helping. I think that is what Democracy is about.
Why do you, or anyone else, believe that reparation has to be monetary. There are many ways of helping people up.
I do believe that you might re-think the statement that we cannot make up for all of the injustices we have done after having said that everyone has to stand up and take responsibility for our lives and actions.

I guess we have had 43 chances to look at the ones that have run this country and some of them have done no more than embarrassed this great nation and the principles on which it stands for.
