The NAACP has become a corrupted organization and has been for years and years now. They are a joke. And now they choose a guy who looks more white than black to lead them. good luck.

When the agency hears Obama and launch major voter drive in the same sentence from these folks, we will launch our audit of their tax exempt status.

With multiple millions in prison for life and working daily please have the NAACP start a scholarship programs that is financed by securing the means for prisoners to donate their unusable prison pay.

This organization would better serve its constituency by focusing on the obscene illegitimate birth rate and rampant anti-social behavior this people currently seems to revel in and ensorses.

Hey they hired a white guy! Not this story will ever tell you this: the main reason they don't like this guy is that he's "high yellow", too white. Age has nothing to with it. Like the rampant anti-homosexual attitudes in the black community, this little issue of black racism will never make it to press.

The NAACP will regain its strength if it can get rid fo political hacks like Julian Bond and hold the Democrat party accountable (there's a novel idea!) for 40 years of failed social policies that have destryoed inner city schools at the behest of the teacher's unions, have destroyed inner city families with disasterous programs that reward illegitamacy and have created a generation of fatherless, uneducated, violent, unemployable, full-of-self-esteem children running wild in the streets. and we could go on and on and on. Destroy the block voting which keeps Dems in power and finally the NAACP will have done something to help blacks.

What is the relevancy of the NAACP today? What significant accomplishments has this organization acheived in recent years? And since this organization is moving to Washington DC, why is the Baltimore Sun making this front page news?

Mobilizing black voters is not going to help Barack Obama in any significant way. Barack Obama will only win a general election by appealing to both black and white voters. African Americans make up less than 13% of the population of the United States. If every African American in the entire country voted for Barack Obama, he can still lose.

The NAACP is irrevalent today and does not serve a purpose. I am 35 years old and could care less about the NAACP. It is a waste and membership will stay the same as before probaly worse. To be beneficial we as a people have to look inside of ourselves and change us. We can then change the community not the NAACP. The NAACP cant do that so it is a waste of time for me and many others in the black community.

I think Jealous maybe what the NAACP needs to connect with all ages and renew focus on Black community instead of the usual suspects of black preachers who are not connecting and motivating the younger generation to get involve. Hopefully Jealous will change their entire charter and throw the outdated policy.
I beleive the policy of NAACP has been stagnant over the last few years and posible having some one young will infuse new life into the organization hopefully infusing a new sense of pride in the younger generation to take up the cause of civil rights.

If you make an education a priority and stop whining and jumping on useless causes there might even be a use for your organization. And for Gods sake, who cares how black he is. If that is a major consideration, your whole cause is doomed. What ever happened to "being judged by character and not by the color of ones skin."

Age should never be a factor but what is it that he can bring to the table to improve the organization. I think it is about time that we start putting younger people into key positions to get the organization back on track. We should have millions of members, not thousands. I applaud his selection and look forward to great things and a new organization.

Good thinking. Color should not be a factor but the organization is nothing like it was when Rev. King was there, but it could be close. I never know when the conventions are. I went to two but then nothing more. We need to look more on the issues and how the NAACP can help. It is not about someone's ego.

Congradulation on your selection as the new President of the NAACP. I have been a member of the NAACP since 2006. I live in Prince Georges County Maryland. The Chapter hear is in need of new direction and leadership. I
hope that you can provide some type of guidance.

I am a senior who served inteh civil rights era and yet I question the relevance of NAACP, though I had hoped their legal defense fund would take up the civil right issues of Illinois paratransit riders from chicago and suburbs.

We were not even given the courtesy of a response after sending in our information/request.

I can imagine how young people feel NAACP is no longer relevant to their issues..

detractors said yesterday that Jealous is too green to take command of the organization and worried that the decision to pass over a powerful Texas pastor signals that the organization is moving away from traditional ties to black churches and known civil rights leaders. "There is an anti-preacher sentiment," said Amos C. Brown, a NAACP board member and pastor of the Third Baptist Church of San Francisco.

I commented on an earlier article that"Finally a non-clergyman."I stand pat on that comment. Here in the 21st centry there still seem to be the willingness to overlook how Christianity came into the lives of people of color.SLAVERY.....REMEMBER?

Again,I applauled the board members for seeking New Blood to lead this organization.I have never given any time or finacial support to the NAACP for the very aformentioned reason. It had been headed by too many clergymen.
I sincerly believe the only way this organization can gain support is move in the direction it has recently chosen.

NEW YOUNG BLOOD.....

Jessy Jackson forms The Rainbow Coalition (nonprofit). Al Sharpton forms The National Action Network (nonprofit). The NAACP Board vote for It's new leader is split. Division is a real problem among Black leaders. I'm a new member of the NAACP and I'mconcerned with the way the local chapters are managed and the way they seek or fail to seek new members. I'm Puerto rican and I see that there are many Blacks who don't want to accept that Black is changing. The numbers of Interracial marriages continue to grow and the face of the black man and woamn is changing as we move into the future. I wonder if Mr. Jealous has really studied the History of Blacks. To those interested in a little know History of Blacks, Google, "Loiza Aldea Puerto Rico," and see how long have Blacks been interracially mixing.

Great article and glimmers of hope for our NAACP to become "Fired Up! again. As a life member, I look forward to the challenges our new president will give to the stalwart members to open their closed ranks, to teach and learn from our new forthcoming membership. Godspeed, President Jealous!
