Club's nurture, Flacco's nature proving to be promising fit

Let's all laugh at the "experts" who said that the Ravens draft was a failure because they picked Flacco. The Press loves to shove it in people's faces for things they had said. Maybe some enterprising reporter will dredge up those quotes from draft day analysis.

The kid has poise which is something you can't teach. I think Troy Smith has it as well, but Troy doesn't have Flacco's physical gifts to go with the poise.

I think the kid is really going to be a very special NFL QB.

You talk about his stats on sunday as if they were terrible. He had two picks, the second was not his fault. D Mason has been a stand up guy playing hurt, but he did get his handson the ball. Super bowl winning qb, also had two, but the second was overturned. I do think Joe will grow from games like this, the steelers,etc.but dont generalize his performance because he is a rookie. He had noi run game ecluding himself, he did not have the fg blocked, and he did not give up the rushing yardage.

Sometimes I don't know where you guys at the Sun get this sh^t. Statistics don't tell Flacco's story from this past Sunday - receivers couldn't get open, the running game (with the exception of Flacco) was non-existent and Flacco did the best he could with what was made available to him. I didn't see "happy feet" did you? I didn't see panic, did you? I didn't see him trip over his own feet on drop backs, did you? I didn't see him with that 2007 Steve McNair 1,000 yard stare that told you the man was a lost ball in tall weeds.

Do you know who didn't have a good game? The defense and the running backs.

In Flacco's QB career, he's won games and lost games and he doesn't get too high or too low either way. His maturity and self restraint are a breath of fresh air compared to the prima donnas who throw tantrums on the field, get penalized for losing their cool and, no matter how many times they've been in the end zone, take the opportunity of a touch down to initiate an episode of Soul Train with a dance ritual. These receivers who constantly make the "throw the flag" motion on any play they miss the ball is getting older than Chris Berman's act. No, Flacco given another season of Football, is going to do great if we get him some receivers in the off season and plus up our defense. Flacco can take care of himself - it's some of the other children on the team that bother me. Our defense is living on borrowed time.

Those of us who have had the chance to see him play these past three years at Delaware (one running the scout team, two on the field) can attest that none of this is a surprise to us. The kid's got the goods. You can never tell if a player is destined for "greatness" (whatever that means), but this guy will be really good for a long, long time.

Why? Because advertisers are pay per view. Readers are duped into clicking on the link, believing it's a new article, only to find that they've read it already. Too late however, the advertiser is already charged for the view.

This is a practice that needs to stop. Either that, or there needs to be an indicator showing that the title was changed.

After Sunday's game, the one area of the team that I'm not worried about is the quarterback. That tells you something. The guy is a football player in the best sense of the term. Please, let's ignore the stats (which by the way are not that bad!) Look at how he plays and imagine him playing with more talented receivers. For a change, the Ravens can now focus on building other areas of the team, like the receiving corps and the secondary.

They need three other decent receivers like the Bengals have. Put Mcgahee in as the third down back and lets see what Rice has. Then we can decide if the draft produced 2 NFL players. We already know 3-7 picks are luxury scrap they didnt need. Come on Oz Tavares Gooden? What a joke.

great point about how the coaching staff saved flacco when the game was out of control. I've heard other columnists say the gave-up and I don't think that's a fair assessment. The coach needs to look at the forest not just the trees and based on the way the game went I think he did the right thing. I'll be sh

Flacco's demeaner reminds be of a cross between bledsoe and montana. I hope it ends up being more like montana! In the end we have no solid receivers other than mason and teams are starting to double him. Heap is decent, now that he's apparently playing hurt, but the rest are not reliable enough. Still wonder why we didn't go afer roy williams??

Agreed! Kyle Boller is a tough kid and a real class act. I wish him the best.

Flacco is the future. I just hope the locker room treats him with more respect next year. We have all been fans of this team longer than most of the team, and we can say for sure that Flacco has been one of the first real answer for a long term QB. Locker Room: Recognize!
As for the WR, maybe next year they can bring in some real talent and pasion at receiver besides Mason. I think we would have an explosive offense. The recievers now are perfect in regards to timing in the learning stages for Flacco. Next year is the test of throwing the ball down field and with some TOUCH. Flacco has gotten over the hump of deserving the right to be a starter. Later he will have to prove whether he is average or an elite QB. Oh yeah, I wouldn't put all the blame on Heap this year for not getting the ball. Watching some the film the past couple of weeks. He is usually open. Flacco needs to spread the ball around, especially to Heap. We need to be multi-dimensional and spread those defenses out. GO JOE!

Our biggest offensive challenge and one that needs to be addressed is that our receivers are lame. Other than Mason that is. He is the only one who can get open. So when misinformed people like Preston or Steele say that Flacco holds onto the ball too long, hello!!! He holds onto it because no one is getting separation. No one is getting open. Wait until we get some real WR's in here. Watch Flacco take off then. It is time we officially acknowledge that Mark Clayton is an absolute bust. He is a first round pick? Rick, not sure who spearheaded this article, but this is the type of article that the fans want to read. the real fans, who have been following the team off-season to pre-season to mid-season, know how wonderful it is to be 6-4 at this point in the season AND how Flacco's progress has contributed to the 6 wins that we do have.

Compare this kid with "the greats" in their first year (Manning brothers, Favre, Aikman, etc.) and you see that he has better stats than most.

If you guys want to champion anything this season, then constantly mention how Manning (IND) needed Harrison and James/Addai or Aikman needed Irving and Smith.

Bang the drums on that and maybe the team's brass will make those positions priorities in the offseason to put the Ravens in contention to win the division next year!
