Limited release for convicted mother

I have always felt that justice was never served in this case. That poor little girl was murdered by her own mother. No news coverage ever convinced me that Lisa Dieter did not deserve jail. When the crime first occurred, reporters stated that she had never been known to have mental illness or depression. Even if she were depressed, what right does that give her to take her precious daughter Alana's life? I also think she is still a danger to others. If she gets angry, she's liable to try to "blow something up again" or drive her car recklessly, in which case she could certainly injure others. Something has never added up for me in this case; how did she walk away without a scratch while her daughter was killed?

Amy,if you knew Lisa personally, you would understand that she is not the cold hearted, callous monster that you portray her to be. Depression is an illness just like Diabetes or Cancer. Lisa and her family continue to morn the death of Alana, and if you had any true concern for those personally effected by this tradgedy, you would spare them your small minded judgements.

I am a mother of a 27yr old that has suffered with depression since 14. It is an illness and I'm sure that IF she really has this illness, she has regretted what she did. They often do things and afterwards, are truly sorry, and back to their lovable selves. Perhaps some may feel she deserves a stiff jail sentence. I personally believe she will remain in "self" jail. Everyday she lives, she will remember the precious gift God gave her, but she has ended her life. Hopefully she will get the help she needs to deal with her illness. My son has never done anything to harm himself, but has tried suicide. Mental illness is really a weird thing and hard for ppeople with a healthy mind to understand. I can not pass judgement on her, just as I do not oass judgement on a woman that has an abortion. It's the choice they made/make, and will have to live with for the rest of their lives. I pray God grant them the serenity to accept the things that they can not change and the wisdom to know the difference.

i went to school with alana at immaculate heart of mary, we had a little crush on each other and and i knew lisa aswell. she was a very nice woman which makes it hard to believe that she would do something like this. if alana were still alive then she would have graduated the eight grade in 2007 and would be going into the tenth grade right now. its just so sad that she is gone and she will always be loved

I am not judging anyone and I realize that Lisa Dieter ended her life when she killed her daughter, if she truly is sorry. But this story has haunted me for such a long time, ever since it happened. I am truly sorry for people who suffer from depression. I have had my own issues with anxiety and depression and sought help from a wonderful medical doctor. I truly believe in the saying, "There but for the grace of God go I." I just can't imagine anyone denying their child her life. Couldn't Lisa have reached out to anyone in her family before she made such an awful decision, which she seemed to be planning for a while. It seems her family has been supportive of her after the tragedy. I am a Christian and I just know Alana is with the Lord and has forgiven her mother, but my heart always cries out for justice for victims.

I am not being heartless when I say justice was not served. I realize Lisa Dieter has to live with what she did. However, everything seemed so planned out to me. Why not call someone for help before you decide to try to kill your own child? It's bad enough to take your own life, but why destroy your child's life? Someone would have helped Lisa. I do feel sorry for her, of course. It is a terrible and bizarre thing that happened. But there is a system of justice; no one should be excused from it simply because the victim was their own child.

For the one's that say "justice was not served" then you need to do more research on this matter!!!and Depression yes it is a illness NOT a just a way out of it!! Lisa is a very good person that is sick and has to live her life without her daughter that she loved very much.

Lisa loved Alana more than anything else in the whole world. She wanted them to both be together in life and death. God's plans were different for Lisa. She has to live in Hell on earth.

I know her maiden name was Houck. I do believe it is Lisa Ann Houck from what I have read.

It has been 8 years since Alana's death. she will always and forever be loved and never forgotten. I feel as though every one who knew her still feels her in their lives. She doesn't physically live among us but she is spiritually present throughout everything. Ms. Lisa was a great mother to Alana. She loved her dearly and I personally knew her through Alana's friendship. She was ill, yes she took my best friend, but I'm ready to forgive her. Something had to be seriously wrong in her life and to make it worse after already losing her daughter by shunning her or at least not trying to make contact with her can increase the mental illness she felt 8 years ago. Ms. Lisa and Alana were my family as much as my mother and siblings are. I think about both of them constantly and nothing can take that away, even if my best friend's death was the cause of her mother's behavior.

I went to school with Alana and remember this like it was yesterday. As much as I feel her mother was let off a little to easy I remember she will have to live with the guilt of killing her daughter everyday and that is punishment enough.
