Does the NFL have to give permission to Direct TV to brodcast this game on Monday? Anyone know?
Since: Aug 07
No way they are going to get that game in on Monday night.
Baltimore, Atlanta, who cares? But leaving it in Houston with all the crap that's going to be going on is utterly insane. What were these NFL people thinking? |
The NFL leaned on ESPN and now ESPN is allowing Direct TV to broadcast the game. At first ESPN was standing firm because they have exclusive rights to Monday night games but after some bullying by the NFL they waived their right. |
Only because they are stupid. They could give us the extra game this year and then play in Houston next year or the year after giving Houston an extra home game that year. The bottom line is that Goodell is not showing good leadership here and not being decisive. He should have made the decision Wednesday night or Thursday morning to move the game to Baltimore or another city. Tickets would have been a nightmare but none of the situations are ideal. Many teams have tickets online that you can print out and scan at the game. Don't know if the Ravens have this since I am a PSL owner but that's one way they could get the tickets out. It looks like it's a moot point now. |

This game has been added to the DirecTV lineup for Monday Night, Channel 717

Wow, I really didn't expect that to really happen, I'll take it!!!
They won't play the game and they'll count it as the Ravens and Texans bye week.

since sunday ticket subscribers have basically already paid for the game, it was just a matter of getting DTV to reach out to the NFL and ask if it would be possible. the nfl makes a nice bit of money off of the sunday ticket and I think both concerns realized it would be good PR. most of the country will be watching the espn game so it couldn't really hurt to bury us in the 700's. |

Good news for non-Baltimore area fans!
DIRECTV(R) NFL SUNDAY TICKET(TM) UPDATE: BALTIMORE VS. According to PFT the NFL has decided to allow direct TV to televise. You just have to hope a local bar carries it. |

Hey guys I here for us out-of-towners, that Direct TV has had an agreement with ESPN to broadcast the game for Sunday Ticket Owners. This is quoted on "chron.com ." I hope this thing is true.
DirecTV says it will provide the Ravens-Texans game Monday night to its NFL Sunday Ticket subscribers nationwide. There had been questions earlier whether Sunday Ticket customers would be able to pick up the game outside the Houston and Baltimore areas, where it will be carried on CBS affiliates (including Channel 11 in Houston), because it will take place at the same time as the Eagles-Cowboys game on ESPN. However, DirecTV spokesman Robert Mercer said NFL Sunday Ticket customers around the nation will be able to see the Ravens-Texans game live Monday night. ESPN has exclusive rights to the Monday night window but agreed with the decision to make the Texans available on Sunday Ticket. "We had conversations with the NFL today and determined this was the appropriate decision in order to best serve football fans," said ESPN spokesman Bill Hoffheimer. "Also, we will update our national viewers during the regularly-scheduled MNF game between the Eagles and Cowboys with in-game highlights of the Ravens-Texans." GOOOO RAAAAVENS!!!!!!!! Take it easy Baltimore... |
Oh that will be really good for me if Sunday ticket is showing it at the sports bar, hopefully it appears on the schedule now because it did not earlier.
Yeah its gonna be shown they did change the schedule, yes!!!

Wow, I really didn't expect that to really happen, I'll take it!!! I told everybody this early Friday afternoon, but all of you know it all's doubted the power of fan interest and the all mighty $. I'm a die hard Blackbird but this is bigger than the Ravens and the Texans. The infastructure to broadcast the game is already there in Reliant Stadium, DIRECTV has nothing to lose and more to gain by televising this game. Two games in TX on Monday night, why not show it??? They might outplay the NFC and gain all of the attention and who het's bragging rights...The TICKET!!!

Obviously Goodell and the NFL have royally screwed this one up and yes it is about money. Maybe the NFL doesn't lose money directly, but it does lose out on merchandise sales since nobody will be at this game to buy anything. But, more importantly, the Texans get to keep their season ticket holders' money and not have to give it back as would happen if the game were moved to any other city where it would not sell out.
But questions still abound... Do they even have power at the stadium or airport right now? Since most people in the Houston metro area did not evacuate and most have no power, who will be watching this game in Houston??? HAha! Pretty all-around sleazy decision if you ask me, and especially if you're a Houston season ticket holder, fan, or Houston resident. But, otherwise, probably good news for the Ravens, assuming they'll be able to fly in on Sunday. Since few fans will be there, there won't be much of a home field advantage for the Texans, that's for damn sure. So maybe this is surprise gift from Goodell to the Ravens. I'm sure he didn't intend it that way though, hehe. GO RAVENS!!! |

3 million people without power in Houston.
Game is happening When? What City? No way they play in Houston. |
It's sounding like the game will either be moved or canceled. While the Texans could use a bye week at this stage of the season, and may push the issue to their advantage, the Ravens want to get back out on that field against a struggling team like Houston ASAP, and would likely be amenable to playing the game in Baltimore or more neutral turf. Heck, we'll all be happy to wear Texans gear to the stadium if they just let us play it here. Or take it to New Orleans, Atlanta. Any city with a team that's away will do. But if the Ravens get gypped out of a bye week at this stage of the season (rather than later, when we will need it, based on our pending opponents), we ought to get a draft pick or a cushier next year schedule out of this raw deal. There are tons of ways the NFL can handle this and still have a game on Monday, but so far the moving the game back a day and expecting to play post-hurricane is bordering on moronic. Whether they do the right thing and just move the game to Baltimore or a neutral site or not remains to be seen. I don't have high hopes. |

Goodell & the NFL have screwed up again. You mean they couldn't read a damn weather forecast and move/postpone this game DAYS AGO appropriately without this fiasco?
Only money being protected here is Texan's OWNER's season ticket & concessions money, the NFL couldn't give a rats ass about the people Houston, anything else & everyone knows it and the NFL clearly proved it through their utter stupidity. Pathetic. |
