I went once 20 years ago and never went back! Terrible food and terrible service. Hard to imagine how they made it this long.

Actually, Ponderosa's chicken wings are (or were) excellent. I will miss them. Never sat down in the place but picked up 50 wings for a party all the time.

Very tough steaks years ago and haven't been back again. Hard to cut and the chewing.....wow! Good luck to the employees though!

Awwww d@mmit. I enjoyed eating @ the Ponderosa up in Wisconsin - the food was excellent. Maybe if they re-opened some restaurants in IL they would have done better

Haven't eaten in one in over 20 years! However this is going to be the tip of the iceberg nationwide! Expect a ton of restaurants to disappear as a result of recession. Way cheaper to eat at home.

There go more of those food server jobs. Hang in there Obama is coming with all those "green" jobs that he's going to create.

Cheaper to eat at home? Thanks for that startling revelation.

It would be a good thing for another company to buy the Metromedia group's restaurants. It was heartbreaking to see Bennigan's employees show up for work in Dallas, Irving, and surrounding areas, to find the restaurants closed and the company didn't have the decency to let the employees know that anything was wrong. Not only did they not get a paycheck, but the paychecks they previously received bounced on them. It was cruel.

Buffet places can't begin to make a profit when you have 450 pound kids and adults bellied up at the buffet line for $5.99. A lot of these people time it so they can sit in the trough for breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner.

The stores are not closing, at least not the franchise owned ones. You will still be able to get your wings. As for them not telling the employees that they are closing the next day is to avoid employee and managers from contaminating food they are serving because they figure why try and work hard today because I know tomorrow I will not have a job. It would not be fair to the people eating there that day to spend their money and get sick.

They overcharged for buffets that were basically starch, the basic refined carbohydrate. Thick crust pizza, mac n cheese, potatoes of various styles, breads, cakes, pies..As for being $5.99, they have not been that for a long time.

I attended a marketing class about 6 years ago, where the associated educational media included a piece on how Bonanza and Ponderosa constituted one of the best restaurant businesses. I asked how, since most in the Chicago area had closed. Apparently whatever problem they had metastasized to the rest of their operation.
