Lee: You must be kidding with this drivel? This is satire right? Are you copying an article from your 1960's civics course?$4.00 gas beats having to live inside while bullets are being shot all over your street. Ask any respectable poor family where they would choose to live.Wrong, wrong, wrong. The decline of cities like Baltimore was a function of cheap oil/gas, out-of-control highway spending, and the resulting sprawl. Because of this, the value of urban homes plumeted to nothing, meanwhile the value of suburban homes has increased srongly for decades.
All of that is reversing now, and very quickly. The speed that property values are now falling is directly proportional to a home's distance from the uban core. In the core itself, values are still increasing despite the implosion of all the latest financing mechanisms. As the cost of fuels continue to accellerate - and they will - the value of urban propety is going to skyrocket. What's happening in the suburbs now is the same thing that happend to Baltimore in the 50's/60's - except this time it's the illegal immigrants and section 8 housing that is moving in. If you have any sense whatsever you will buy all the central-district urban property you can ASAP. If you own in the suburbs now is the time to sell. And by now I mean yesterday.
