Wrong, wrong, wrong. The decline of cities like Baltimore was a function of cheap oil/gas, out-of-control highway spending, and the resulting sprawl. Because of this, the value of urban homes plumeted to nothing, meanwhile the value of suburban homes has increased srongly for decades.
All of that is reversing now, and very quickly. The speed that property values are now falling is directly proportional to a home's distance from the uban core. In the core itself, values are still increasing despite the implosion of all the latest financing mechanisms. As the cost of fuels continue to accellerate - and they will - the value of urban propety is going to skyrocket. What's happening in the suburbs now is the same thing that happend to Baltimore in the 50's/60's - except this time it's the illegal immigrants and section 8 housing that is moving in. If you have any sense whatsever you will buy all the central-district urban property you can ASAP. If you own in the suburbs now is the time to sell. And by now I mean yesterday.
Lee: You must be kidding with this drivel? This is satire right? Are you copying an article from your 1960's civics course?$4.00 gas beats having to live inside while bullets are being shot all over your street. Ask any respectable poor family where they would choose to live.

Margie - You are an ignorant, small-minded, bitter person. You use this page to espouse, your racist, narrow-minded views. Please keep those thoughts to yourself. Baltimore does have issues - that is obvious. But those issues go far beyond race, and to simplify and place blame for the plight of the area on one group of people, is quite ignorant.

Whether you believe the Target and the Mall will thrive or decline is up for debate, but to boil the plight of the area down to blaming black folk tells me a lot about you. The Giant in Edmondson Village is doing just fine, but if it were up to people like you, I am sure it would have never been built. I am just glad that every person of your race does not think like you, otherwise we would all be living in the 1940's. The people who live in that area deserve a nice place to shop. Those who commit crimes are a small minority and hopefull will be caught and prosecuted. Believe it or not - most people are good and work hard. And Yes - people of all races commit crime - even in your area by people of your race.

True....Liberty Road turns into Liberty Heights around Gwynn Oak. Anyone remember the movie theater and the Gwynn Oak Park?
The name changes at Northern Parkway, not Gwynn Oak. The theatre you refer to was the Ambassador...it was a ballroom in the 1970s, then a beauticians' school and a tabernacle. The building is still there, but abandoned.

Would take a hell of a lot of dynamite.
Maybe we can use some of the TNT left over from "reviving" Arbutus, Brooklyn Park and Dun(g)dalk. Right?

As are the ones at Reisterstown Plaza and 33rd Street, both areas the Margies of the world wouldn't be caught going to. Hell, they're prolly Carroll County folk who THINK they've got it made in Nowheresville.

'Prolly' you should come on out to Carroll County sometime. Just follow Reisterstown Road on out. Great place to live. Not much to do but tractor pulls and square dances....lol....Shopping isn't an issue as many of us head on over the PA line and do our shopping to beat some of the MD taxes.
