The reason Hampden is one of the places that is doing better is because it never went black. As bad as the white trash is in that neighborhood is, they weren't killing each other the way blacks do, so the neighborhood was able to experience a comeback.
There's a lot less white trash there now and even some sreggin has moved in. No one's torched their house, burned a cross in their yard, etc.
Reggin neighborhoods never get better, you can't help people that don't want to be helped.

The 'N' word needs to be banned from any discussion by anyone. It is uncival whether uttered by a black in jest or a white under his breath from some unpleasent encounter. Inappropriate on any level. True- it has nearly infinite application as does the 'F' bomb, but neither one would be appropriate if you were talking to your daughter or your daughter's friends. That is my measure as to what I think decent prior to speaking or writing such.

The moral of this story...The "N" should slow down!

We must ask ourselves, in the most honest way possible, where are we going as a society? and, Where is it that we want to end up? The reality is this, black people commit crimes. White people commit crimes. Latinos, Asians, and every other race of people commit crimes. But the biggest mistake we can make as a society is to generalize any race and continue, as we too often do, to look at one person as a representation of a larger group. The moment we fall into this continuous stream is the moment we fail to reach for the side of reason. This process is long and difficult but if history has shown us anything, its that it is possible for us to live side by side as long as we are willing to "break bread" with one another.
I am deeply saddened by many of the comments here on display. If anything it continues to show that as much progress we, as a group of human beings, have made their are still many more paths of which we must follow. I urge you all, black and white, to make an effort today and everyday to open your heart not for direct, immediate change, but for the possibility of change. It's ok to admit your faults, and it's ok to admit that you may have negative preconceived notions towards others, as we all do, but we must first understand that these emotions will do no good for anyone involved.
Lets us look at a few realities for a moment. For hundreds of years we have been yelling at one another to "go back to where you came from." The reality is know one is going anywhere. Not white people, not black people, not the asians, nor the latinos. If this is the case, at what point do we realize that shunning one another is not only inhumane but completely unrealistic? If this is the case isn't it at least important to realize that we must find whatever common ground existent between the races. And when we find that common ground isn't it important that we stand on that together?
Another reality that we must accept is that to black people the "N-Word" is not just another word. History is drenched in far too much blood and suffrage for the "N-Word" to have no meaning. It is the most damaging word in the english language and we must, both black and white, teach one another that the word holds far to much historical significance for it to be used so lightly in casual conversation. Men and woman of a variety of races gave up their lives so that, that word would not be taken so lightly.
The road in which we must travel is long, but, and I truly believe this, not forever. I urge you all to take a long look at yourselves, both black and white, and be honest with yourselves. Ask yourselves if you have ever hurt someone because of the color of their skin? If you have, and I know WE all have, the next question is what will determine what society we hand over to our your impressionable minds...What will you do to fix it?

The world is full of ignorance and people should teach their children respect when they are very young so they may carry it in their future!

Some of you people do not read very well..do you? And what in God's name is a sriggen? There are a lot of people who can't afford the rent in Hampden or just don't wish to live in Baltimore City. One more thing...the African Americans know about the white racist community and many do NOT wish to be there!

Proves my point that if humanity began in Africa then why haven't they done the most being that they were here the most? Because they're animals right along side the hippo's. The white man think it up, the black animal doith.

Im not trying to be mean but baltimore is a very black city. the blacks are killing each other off. white people dont do that. the drug problem is mostly black.car jacking the black.most all robberies in the city black involvement.

However, men of my color (white) can no longer go in many (most?) areas in many (MOST!) cities because of large gangs of people of your color (black) doing MUCH more than calling us names. In fact, a white person is 300 times more likely to be assaulted by blacks than vice versa. For women of my color (white) the situation is much worse. In 1988 there were 9406 cases of Black on White rape nation wide, compared with less than 10 cases of white men raping black women. Although only 12% of the population, blacks account for more than 50% of the rapes and 60% of murders nation wide.

So, sir, I am VERY sorry about your hurt feelings. Perhaps you can forgive that man and turn your attention toward cultivating your own race into a group more worthy of respect.

Well, humanity may have begun there a long time ago, but I see very little 'humanity' there any longer. Like wise, civilization is also a word that probably doesn't apply to much of Africa.
And answer me this...if people have been there so long, how come it isn't the most advanced, sophisticated place on Earth now? I mean, if that's where it all started, what's been accomplished with the head start? Look at the US, one of the newest kids on the block. But in a few hundred years and we've already been to the moon. What gives?
