The last 3 times I've been on the highway this week, there have 2-3 cars 'Nascar' racing through traffic at speeds I would estimate somewhere between 80 and 90+ miles per hour (as traffic allows, anyway). Since this involves wild lane changes and cutting off cars at insanely short distances, I wonder if that was involved here.

At 3am? I doubt it...

The accident occurred at 3:00am? Not to say anyone deserved this but why were they travelling with an infant at 3 in the morning? Was sleep deprevation or another factor to blame for the original crash?

Question- You are an insensitive person. How about maybe the PA driver that was on his way to work in OUR state, using OUR roads that we pay with OUR tax dollars -- All so they can save a buck or two on their big house. And at 3AM you do find that you have cars on the road because there are plenty of people that work in jobs where their shift starts very early and work in maryland.

Excuse me but if you re-read (or read) the article and my comment you will see I was not referring to the car from PA that hit the man and baby, your agenda aside. So you are saying that the car full of five people with an infant may have been on their way to work? Seriously read it again, my comment was simply asking what was a car full of people with a baby doing on the road at 3am. It just seemed a little odd to me, not that anyone deserved to die, but they struck a guard rail first. And at 3:00am if you get in an accident (with no weather or other traffic issues) it is most likely either sleep depravation or alcohol.

Theres people rushing behind me on I83 everyday. Alot of times they appear to not always slow down in the event I have to slow down as the traffic infront of me is slowing down. Plus people tailgate me every day. Especially the pickup trucks and SUVs. Also that wasnt the only accidnet caused by someone stopping on the freeway. I almost rear ended someone in February of 07 after they stopped dead on I695 at York Rd because they almost missed their exit. But luckily no collison occured. Then shortly after a firey crash occured on the beltway at Reisterstown Road from the same situation. Someone stopped dead on the beltway to avoid missing their exit in the center lane.

I live in PA myself and work in Baltimore. Ive experienced PA drivers being more aggressive then Marylanders. And many from the Hereford zone of Baltimore County are inherriting those same driving habits. Tailgating. Flooring the break pedal on the freeway. But luckily they did not inherit passing someone on the left of a solid yellow line. Or cussing out motorist in who they do not know. Which can be dangerous to do.

I realize that you are not being insensitive! I,too, wondered what a six week old baby is doing in a car on 83 at 3 a.m. There may be a good reason, I just don;t know. The age of the parents of this child may yield some answers. Maybe not! I'm just really sad that this had to happen. Grandmom always said that nothing good happens after midnight. I don't know what that means but I keep hearing her!

That was my point, there may have been a good reason but it just didn't smell right.

Laws need to be changed in Maryland. Reckless and aggressive drivers need to be SEVERELY punished. Accidents happen; however, where it is determined the accident was caused as a result of drunk driving, reckless, or aggressive driving, the driver needs to be dealt with as the serious criminal that they are.

We are sending junkies to jail for years for possessing very small amounts of drugs.

Yet we are allowing people to commit murder and mayhem on our streets and they typically receive nothing more than a fine.

Punish bad drivers. Punish them harshly.

Speaking of being insensitive...last time I heard all citizens of the US are entitled to use interstate highways. As for so many Marylanders moving to PA, it's not the size of the home they are trying to get to. They are trying to get away from the excessive cost of living in MD. Seems to me that they are the smart ones.

This particular accident probally had nothing to do with aggressive driving...ya'll can sure get off on a tangent.
At 3 am, there isn't much traffic to get aggressive with.
When the accident investigation is complete and details released, I'd be willing to bet it went something like this...
Mazda, which was BLACK, struck the guardrail and swerved back onto the roadway. Perhaps the driver fell asleep. Driver panics, jumps out of car to check on infant. Car is still on the road. Toyota driver can't see the black car in the middle of a dark road and rear-ends it. The accident took place just over a crest in the hill that also has a slight curve.
No need to question why anyone was in their own car at 3am. This is America and we are free to move about at will the last time I checked.
A horrible accident. Sometimes they just happen and it doesn't mean anybody needs to be punished.

No one is calling for punishment here!!!! Just trying to understand how somthing so terrible can happen to an innocent baby! I don't know if you are a parent or not but my infants were not 83 or any road at 3 a.m.. Thats not to say that there wasn't a reason. We just don't know it yet! Accidents happen. It is just so sad! BTW I'm fairly sure that I won't die being chased by the police 'cause it just won't happen. They say pull over and I will! If baby hadn't been there, baby would still be HERE!

Wreckless and aggressive driving does not deserve severe punishment unless someone is killed as the result. DUI I believe Maryland will make an arrest as well as either suspend or revoke the persons license if caught the first time. However. Many residence of York County work in Baltimore. And Maryland does not give point on out of state drivers licenses. Only Maryland drivers licenses. But they do either add on to the fine or double the fine. I got pulled over in Cambridge MD for going 77 in a 55 mile zone and all I got was a $145 fine since I live in PA and got pulled over in MD. Some PA residence take Advantage of the fact that MD does not give points on out of state liceenses and drive aggressive. And some terrorize other motorists in the process expecting them to drive aggressive. And I do also suspect some of the PA drivers driving on 83 are not licensed to drive and are driving anyway as in PA you do not get arrested for it. In Maryland I believe they do take you to the police station if caught driving unlicensed.

I bet that PA guy was down here drinking in the bar because there really aren't any good bars up in PA (like there are no jobs) where his cheap huge house is...I feel bad for the kid. Kid should have been in a crib at 3am.

So I guess another job in MD opens up for some PA person to take and continue to clog up 83.

Can we seal the PA/MD Border to prevent further incidents like this??

Whenever my family does inter-state auto trips, we always leave home between midnight and two in the morning---less traffic, less congestion, less hassle. We pack the car, get a really good sleep the previous early afternoon and evening and awaken fresh to start our journey.
So, I would be questioned for having my children in the car at that time of the morning? NONSENSE.
