This Officer who is supposed to UPHOLD the law was 1) not paying attention
2) speeding on a 1/2 mile stretch of Rt 32 where 5 people have died in 4 accidents within 3 years and there are WARNING signs everywhere and he went over SLOW DOWN Rumble strips not 50 feet BEFORE he hit my neighbor! He should be repremanded to the fullest extend of the law and be forced to pay for the damages - not allowing insurance to cover it. He should also loose his job - maybe he will become a better driver, before he kills someone. WHEN will police learn they are NOT above the law. I watch them FLY by every day, doing well above the posted 50mph limit here. SHAME ON YOU, you are lucky your injuries are not bad and that you didn't kill someone's family member last night. Thank GOD you didn't hit me with my children in my car. I was only 10-12 cars behind the accident. |

i love how everyone is self righteous when it comes to a mistake made by a police officer. i hope when you or one of your family members has a lapse in judgment or attention that you are as judgmental towards them. maybe that is it, you are just a judgmental and spiteful human being. good day ma'am....i said good day!

jimmy - this momentary *lapse in judgement* as you call it could have cost 2 people their lives - not including the officer. If this had been a civilian, people would have been on their case much harder than I stated. YES, we DO hold police to a higher standard. If they can't follow the law, they shouldn't have the job. If they cause accidents due to stupidity, lapse of good judgement, poor character, etc, they should NOT be police. This is coming from a person who has more than a dozen family/close friends who are police - both CITY, COUNTY, STATE and those who have served as Governors Security. So YES, I do expect more of them as we all should. Sounds to me like you are a police who chooses to believe that rules don't apply to you?!? No, not spiteful - just sick and tired of jerks who think they are above the law or don't follow it. My taxes/insurance have to pay for this accident, darn right I am mad.

you assume an awful lot when you make broad statements. you make the statement that insurance should not cover the accident which is ludicrous. that is the entire purpose of insurance. you assume that all the police driving above the speed limit feel they are above the law without the knowledge of if they are responding to a call. when you make broad judgmental statements don't be shocked when you are called out on them. i have family that are police also. maybe you should ask your family that is police if they respond to all calls with lights and sirens. ask them if they have even been in an "oh sh$t" situation when driving that they realize that maybe they pushed the envelope and got lucky and didn't get in an accident. or ask them if they ever were distracted by either the police radio or computer in car and narrowly avoided an accident at the last minute.

Jimmy,
You must be a cop? I work for the Ocme and work daily with law enforcement. However I have witnessed on many occasion 's one of Howard County's finest put on their emergency lights just to get through a light and then they just drive normally and I drive a unmarked suv with the lights and sirens and most important the radios and know that 2 of the last 3 times this happened their was no calls being given out. I was riding down 70 east last Thursday when this idiot Cumberland city marked unit passed me doing a 105mph I know because I caught up to him (which was wrong of me) but I did that to get his car number. He was late for training in Sykesville. I called the shift commander in Cumberland and he knew who I was talking about and said their would be something done. Police are not above the law the rookies are the most dangerous idiots on any dept. So their you have it! |

i never said that police are above the law. im not sure why everyone wants to make me a police officer simply because i posted not to assume the worst when an incident occurs involving police. i can't take the credit for something that i am not. i can't speak to every time a person has seen a police officer pass them...i just would like people to delay their judgment on police as they would like judgment delayed on themselves. its not to much to ask. there are bound to be idiots in every walk of life....i don't argue that there are some police who should not be police. i would only like the jump to judgment of for all people stopped. everyone on the internet feels all big and ballsy to jump on everyone's case. its annoying. do unto others as you would have them do unto you. simple words to live by.

Jimmy I hear you and I am very passionate because I'm the one who responds to deaths no matter what the cause, I am sorry for placing you in a scenerio you have nothing to do with. Dennis |

ok, now call for this citizen's insurance to refuse to cover the accident, lose his job, and go to jail. http://www.topix.com/forum/city/sykesville-md... |
