The NAACP is a dinosaur and selecting this young man as the puppet of a 64 ring circus of pompous clowns and buffoons who have long out lived their usefullness will turn it into the fossil status that it deserves. Time changed but the NAACP did not. Julian Bond is a loud mouthed intemperate partisan politician at the head of a chattering class of incompetent out of touch conservative old fools. Bruce Gordon was their last best hope for respected professional creative leadership. In an age of O bama and Oprah along with the educational political and socioeconomic success of a new African American class coupled with a persistent black underclass the NAACP has two groups to which it has nothing to say.

It is time to recognize the leadership bankruptcy of the current NAACP. Dissolution and gratititude for past success should be the goal. We need tp put our monry and talent else where. Having won all of its major battles and changed a nation the NAACP's failure to evolve is sad but not unusual.

I have heard that a lot of people in the Caribbean is very concerned with skin tone and European features. I have been told that the older generation does not care for their children marrying someone darker and definitely not someone that is black. Because it is considered marrying down. Benjamin Jealous should have been never selected to head the NAACP, because he has not experienced what most of us blacks have experienced in society, because his white features will afford him privileges most blacks will never have. Julian Bond is a half white man. Many of the old so called black leaders back in the day was high yellow with straight or good hair. Many of these high yellow or light skin blacks discriminated against dark/brown skin blacks. This practice is happening today in 2008.

Julian Bond is married to a white woman living in Virginia and he supports marriage between a man and man and woman and woman. Most blacks regardless if they are Democrat or Republican don't support gay marriage.

The NAACP is a sexist organization with men still at the head. Black women have always been kept within low level positions in this organization without much of a voice. It's time for a black woman to take charge of the NAACP, not a young 35 year old with no Civil Rights experience or experience living in the a black neighborhood.

Blacks are being killed in Los Angeles just for being black by Mexicans trying to rid black neighborhoods and L.A. of black people.

Three black Newark, New Jersey college students were alledged to have been murdered by illegal aliens from Central/South America last year. Jamiel Shaw Jr. was murdered this pass March, 2008 by an illegal alien from Mexico. Where is the outrage from black people? We only see an outrage when it's whites killing blacks only.

The black community and it's leadership is in some serious trouble. For the record, as a black Democrat living in Washington, D.C., I am neither voting for Senators Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, nor John McCain, because of their stance on illegal immigration.

He is black. I went to school with him and he was president of the black students organization at Columbia University. Blacks come in all shades. He's a very smart and capable guy. Let's not discriminate.

Like Stacey I too know Ben from school and also know that he has always identified more with his African American heritage than his caucasian heritage. I also know of his previous civil rights work with the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and Amnesty International. But I should also not fail to mention his work as a journalist and managing editor of the most firebombed black community newspaper in Jackson Mississippi where he worked hard often risking his own personal safety to advance civil rights issues in that community. So much for a lack of "civil rights" experience. How about reading his bio next time before posting what you obviously don't know. Ben is a very smart and dedicated leader in the social justice community, the NAACP is lucky to have him.

A hate organization

Hopefully Mr. Jealous (what a name!) will squarely face the worst problems facing Black America, which are and remain the epidemics of black-on-black crime, violence, illegitimacy, school failure, etc. It is long past time to drop the idiotic blame racism nonsense and start addressing the horrid social ills of too much of black America. After all, if the organization founded to advance the lives of colored people won't start helping black America address and reduce these nasty internal social problems, who will?

Let's hope that Mr. Jealous ends the idiotic policy of blaming racism only. Otherwise he'd be just one more hypocritical fool, acting as a doctor that that treats the patient's sprained pinkie while they bleed to death from the huge gash in their leg.

his dad is white. he downplays his white ancestry but he really cant hide it...and black americans may come in a variety of shades but this is really pushing it. if this guy can be black then anyone can be. and besides, he is technically a mulatto since his mom is black. but i bet his mom was mixed to, since he is way to light to have a heavily african mother.
