Driving tonight the lights went on our 2000 beetle, we have checked and our blower, wipers, lights, are not working, we did hear a buzzing like a cell phone on vibrate sound moments before we lost power. The sound originated from under the center control console. Has anyone found out the cause?

Statr pulling out individual fuses, and using a voltmeter, see which one (or ones) have voltage going across the terminals with the car turned off, and all electrical accessories in the off position. then going by the fuse location in your owner's manual, you'll know which component is constantly on. This works on ANY car...

set it on direct current...If you are using a digital voltmeter, anything with battery voltage will read 12.65-12.75 volts with a fully charged battery. If you pull out a fuse with everything shut off, you should have nothing when probing both sides of the terminal. If you get battery voltage, you found your "parasitic drain"...I once had a 91 Bonneville that would drain the battery overnight...I started pulling individual fuses, and found out that the power door locks were staying on...

Have a 2000 VW Beetle & had a host of problems of which the window is the current problem. Hit the switch to lower the window & Halfway it got stuck & made a very strange grinding sound. Won't budge either way. the switch went out in 2004 & they wanted $90 plus for it. Now the window repair is going to cost $389 plus to repair. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a recall repair Available? I recall something to that effect Any help would be appreciated.

Sal, I have same problem, just got a '03 Beetle with 31K miles on it- a faulty window regulator was the diagnosis- Carmax said this is a common problem. I have looked online and no recalls exist for this but there are tons of sites with owner complaints about it. If you hear of any recalls, keep me posted.

Having several issues with my 2000 beetle. Started with the battery light illuminating while traveleing down the highway. The light would go out if I accelerated. Then the radio shut off by itself and the dash lights dimmed. ABS and BRAKE lights also came on. Wipers and windows VERY slow. 6 month old battery completely dead. Jumped car and let run for 10 min before shutting off by itself. Had alternator checked out all looked good. Battery seemed to be holding a charge until 2 days later same problems repeated. PLEASE HELP..... also, while releasing parking brake my radio would go off and come right back on???

We have a 1998 beetle with a 2.0 engine and auto transmission. Can anyone tell me what the RPM's are when going 60 mph? I feel the transmission may not be shifting into overdrive?

Re: the window problem, 2 weeks ago the driver's window on my wife's 2001 Beetle wouldn't go up. The VW dealer said there's no recall on this problem but that VW is covering the repair cost. While they were at it, they replaced the bad part for the front passenger's window. Were it not for VW picking up the cost, the service mgr told my wife it would cost ~$500/window.
