The shop should pay the towing fee. Also, what about his insurance? Just wondering why the reporter did not ask about the shop nor the owner's coverage?

Here in columbus OH If you have a copy of the police report, copy of the insure for the car it will cost $50-75 to get it back, this man should just get his car out. So what if it was billed for that much, they are offering him to get it out for a hell of alot cheeper, Take it dumbass

Same thing happeneed to me here in C-bus. Why doesn't the impound lot report the vin's directly to the PD, who knows. I was without a car for about a month, the impound lot received my car 2 days after it was stolen, for being parked on the side of the street when it was being cleaned. Seems like this systems needs an update!!

If your car is towed, it's actually more than 200.00 to get it back from the city impound lot.

First of all you need to see that this happened in Cincinnati. NOT COLUMBUS. I don't think he should have to pay a darn thing. His car was stolen. It's not like he left it out in the open with the keys in it which would say "take me, my owner doesn't want me anymore."

Mr. Ondja is partially correct....He probably shouldn't pay the storage bill. But, this story leaves out many important things...First, when the car was stolen did Mr. Ondja file an official stolen report with his local police department? If so, WHY didn't that agency enter the car into the police stolen car database so when another agency checked the license plate, THEY would have realized it was stolen. If Ondja reported the car as stolen did he collect an insurance check for it being stolen stolen? Again, if he did, it isn't his car any longer. It now belongs to the insurance company that PAID him off for it. They owe the "tow" bill. These kinds of stories are nice for "fluff" or to fill in space in the paper, but don't really tells us, as readers much of anything...

I agree with Steve. The Car belongs to the Insurance Co. Looks like a ripoff to me. I'd say keep it!!~! |

Being a 13 year old car, it's unlikely he carried insurance that would cover it being stolen. The story doesn't give enough details, b/c I think those who have asked abt the SHOP'S insurance are asking a good question. I certainly expect to pay NOTHING if I'm the victim of a crime. Thinking it's a "good deal" to get it back for less than $200 is asinine.

Everytime a car is towed from city street or private property, the vin# and veh info is called into the police of the city it was towed from. Tow companies shouldnt be the blame for it taking a long time for the owner to be notified the veh has been recovered. Tow companies charge owners of stolen cars because the driver & company needs to be paid for the service. If the owner has insurance then insurance will pay the tow & storage.

We need serious towing reform in Ohio. These tow companies have are abusing customers and holding cars hostage. Due to the nature of my work, I see tow bills everyday.$150 for the basic tow,$50 for labor,$50 for an adminstration fee, then add mileage charges ontop of that!!! Tow company abuse must stop now!! It's nothing for these sleezy companies to charge $300-$400 for a basic tow, then charge $25/day for it to sit on your overgrown trash lot.
