Keep emailing Toyota about it. I have a 2001 tundra and it is the same thing. I heard that if people keep pushing it, it might be the same deal as the tacoma. When I emailed toyota they said to take it and have it fixed at a dealership. They also said that if there was a recall, then I would be paid back.

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra that has rust perforation through-out the frame. The truck is impossible to have inspected. This vehicle is garage kept, and well taken care of. I have made arrangements with Toyota to look at it.

Toyota says the vehicles are warrantied now for unlimited years and miles. |

I bought a 2001, Tundra new and I have the dealer spray rust proof on the frames and underboday but now rust everywhere. I took the truck to a drive thru wash regularly during each winter but it seems it didn't help. I am pretty give up on tundra truck.

I too have a 2000 Toyota Tundra and it is a complete RUST BUCKET. I purchased it used in 2004 and it's only used as a second vehicle (10K miles in 4 years). It doesn't get alot of road salt because it isn't driven that often. The frame is completely rusted, it's actually flaking off. The undercarriage is a mess. I've called Toyota and I'm insisting on a safety inspection, at their cost. I'm bringing it today. There is something wrong to have this much rust. I am going to pursue this because I believe there is a defect. I do feel that it's the same deal as the Tacoma.

My 2000 Toyota Tundra has rust holes in the frame right by the rear leaf spring bracket. Also in many other spots it has started to shed many layers of metal/rust. I called Toyota and let them know and filed a case with them. This way it gets documented with them so this issue can be monitored over a period of time. The more Tundra owners that file official complaints the better the chance of them helping. It won't be immediate but it's got to start case by case.

My 1998 tacoma was inspected by a local dealership here in Davenport, Iowa in November. They dented the frame, but still stated the frame was "sound for now". Boy that sure makes me feel good. I contacted corporate Toyota once I discovered what they had done. The person at Toyota was not helpful in the least, only told me that "until it is rusted through, they won't buy the truck back". I offered to take a hammer over to the dealership and try denting a frame on a new tacoma and even asked if she would have her family drive around in a vehicle that the frame can be dented by a hammer with "light to moderate swings at 12 inches" like it said in the instructions from Toyota to the local dealers.
So with that said, I filed a complaint with NHTSA in case I am killed in a traffic crash involving the frame of my truck failing. It's pretty hard to feel safe in a vehicle like this. It has NO resale value at all, and the longer Toyota stalls buying it, the lower the "deal" will be. It dropped significantly between October and November of this year alone. I was having some brake work done and the mechanic said it is well known not to use a lift under the frame of these trucks, and that the only way to lift it is on a drive on lift. The word is out about these trucks. I am attempting to add some photos or at least links to this posting. I hope they work. Please note the one photo with a piece of my frame in my fingers. I picked it out of the bottom of the frame once Toyota got done banging on it. Another photo shows one of a few dents which they put into my frame, seeing if it was "safe". http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318/jakem... http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318/jakem... http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318/jakem... http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318/jakem... http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318/jakem... |

behold your beloved toyota. Rusted frames "OH WHAT A FEELING"

My '01 Tundra frame has rusted away. 2 back cross braces gone and a split in the frame itself. Since it passed inspection last year it would seem that the deterioration happen fairly quickly. I called Toyota and they basically said "So sad. Too bad." They have no plans to help in any way. So much for the truck that was to last for 10 or more years. I won't go with a Toyota again even though I have owned them for over 30 years. Why pay the higher price when a Ford will last just as few years and be a lot cheaper.

Any response from Toyota? |
