Selling Out America

Sure, the 'Big Three' kept building bigger and bigger SUVs and gas-guzzlers, while the Japanese saw, read and adjusted to the writing on the walls. It reminds me of the 1970's during and after the OPEC oil embargo - which brought us such marvels of American automotive genious as the Gremlin, the Pinto, the Mavrick, the Vega, etc. No, Japan's earned their success and Detroit's 'earned' their collapse. It's a pity that the workers/retirees health and welfare benefits are also going into the toilette. No, we're a nation of American'ts - we can't read the writing on the wall, we're illiterate and the price we pay is our freedom now being owned by the company stores of OPEC, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Nissan, Halliburton {moving their corporate HQ to Dubai - where, no doubt, Cheney's villa on Palm Island is built, furnished and awaiting his arrival}, etc. Make no mistake about it, as we get fluff from McCain {same old - same old, same VERY old} and Hillary refuses to let the water poured over her melt her, and Obama's preacher won't shut the hell up... it was a nice ride/run for America, but, we're cetainly now a nation of American'ts. We've sold our soul for oil [anybody looked at the national debt recently]; we;ve been sold out/down the drain by politicans of BOTH parties [NAFTA, Iraq, MFN for China, etc] and we've no way out of Iraq - having displaced a stable {all be it perverse} regime with chaos and our departure would allow Iran to walk right in and take that oil too. No, we've screwed...ourselves. No flowers, chocolates, a movie or dinner, just drop 'em and bend over. Will the last one out please blow out the candle? Th, th, that's all folks. We've become a nation of Looney Tunes.

The increase is about the same as the Stroger tax increase coming soon. $200 on a $20K car.

I see Toyota is taking lessons from GM trying to become number one in global auto sales.
Perhaps Toyota can soon offer its own version of the Pontiac Aztek too.
Keep it up Toyota and youll soon be losing many customers to the new kids on the scene: Hyundai and Kia.

Toyota and Honda are examples of smart and forward thinking. Ford, Chevy and others always wanted to pick the low hanging fruit as well as being held hostage by the unions. America can and will respond with the right stimulas or incentive. We have within our borders the natural resources to provide great independence provided some of our own are willing to work as a united team rather than constantly picking at us from behind. If China/Cuba can drill withing 90 miles of our coast, why can't we do the same?
There are those, here in, that hate Amercia, have no idea of any world history or the conditions that others live under throughout the world. These are the naysayers and the truly self hating types. They are the ones who hurt us all. If you cannot help, shut up and get out of the way!

Be sure to thank the UAW. Because this is the outcome of them. We have Toyota and Nissan here and the only way they would build a factory was with a lot of tax breaks , you cant blame them for that. Plus the people know the minute they try to get a Union in here, they will pull the plug and leave. And I agree with them. You cant do the work get the hell out. I would like to see the BIG 3 Doing well, but hey you cant fix stupid. GO JAPAN.

This is good news. By definition, this is not inflation since wages are not going up.

Unions help people bargain collectively and that helps the employers and employees. The average Union Member makes 43k without overtime so quit complaining about Unions. I'll bet you secretly want to be in one too! The UAW has bent over backwards to help the US Auto makers! Ubelievable nonsense for a couple of extra bucks an hour that workers get paid to live a little better life. I am a republican that likes Union ideas and concepts. They do the job faster and better than the non-union types.

Government unions are a different matter completely. Government employees should be hired and FIRED at the Will of the PEOPLE since we PAY them. Government jobs are strangling our economy by sapping our resources. Government has never gotten more efficient with labor. Outsource the tasks her in the USA.

We've become a nation of Looney Tunes. You are absolutely right! We have sold our nation's soul for a buck. We have squandered our wealth and stupidly given it away. Americans can't seem to see or want to see something until it hits them right between the eyes. By then, it may be too late. God help America.

It is pretty obvious that the Japanese Gov't. funded the hybrids not Toyota. Ask anyone who has done business in Japan, their regulatory is set up to force you to hire Japanese countries. It is essentially a subsidized closed market and it will catch up with them sooner or later.

The U.S. is the only country in the world that doesn't subsidize its manufacturing base (military is the exception). It will however, subsidize its wealthy, elites, political supporters and the poor...everybody in between is on their own. And, in many cases penalized for being able to be on their own.

Sorry, can't lay off the pro-union nonsense.$45K without overtime? To do what? This is good for whom? For you? YES! For US Automakers? NO!
We are all paying too much for everything and in a global market, the consumer is going to get the best-bang-for-the-buck in whatever they're purchasing, usually by buying an offshore product. Even when looking at products all made (assembled) in America, the price to quality choice is going to be a product with an offshore name. Why? The components, taking the automobile as an example, are sourced globally (yes, even Chevy) in the same percentages. Why then are not the charter American built/assembled products perceived as either more expensive or of less quality? Unions wouldn't have anything to do with that, would they? Mind you, I think the American made product has made incredible strides on all fronts, but would have fared better without the early penalties that collective bargaining contributed mightily to. Just my .02.
