My 2004 Toyota Sienna sticks in the "P" or PARK position. If I follow the procedure and push the shift lock override button, I can operate the car. However, the next time the car is put into park, I am stuck in "P" again. Any suggestions?

It seems silly, but is the break pushed in before you try to put it into gear?

Tommy, did you ever figure this out? We're having the same problem.

Ours too. Happened after techs were wrestling with a brakelight that had burned out and new one only works intermittently.

I have the same problem on my '05. But it seems to only happen when it is extremely hot outside, over 90 degrees.

Anyone find a solution? The dealer is useless as usual.

Same here...I changed the signal indicator and the next morning, our 2004 Sienna was "stuck" in park. Anyone have any idea?

We just had the same problem. I could not shift the selector lever out of the Park position. I also noticed that the brake system warning light indicator was on. As well, the wiper/washer and turn signal switches were not working. Just as unexpectedly, everything was back to normal -About 15 minutes later. Weird. One more thing, it was very cold (-2 F). Thanks!

i am having the same problem, i changed the busted breaklight then when i started the car, the shift lever is stuck on park. i googled it and read about the 10a fuse busted, changed it but didnt fix things...went to the dealership today, charged me $120 upfront to "inspect " the car. said will call me if they needed to replace something and of course will charge me for the labor and parts on top of the $120...sucks!

I too changed my rear signal indicator (2005 Sienna) and when I went to put the cark in Drive I could not get it out of Park! That was 2 days ago. I am still using the override button. I refuse to go to the dealer. Anyone have any ideas?

Just adjust brake pedal switch. Twist off, push all the way down and turn back on.

I have had the same problem as all of you after changing the brake light. What is the brake pedal switch? I'll try that if I know what it is. Thanks.

I had the exact same issue with my 2006 Sienna. Changed the fuse under the driver side and the problem went away for good.

What fuse under the driver side? There are many.

It's a 10 amp fuse(usually red) to the left of a white 25 fuse. Takes 20 seconds to change. The fuses under the dash are low profile fuses.

This just happened to me spontaneously (2004 CE)... unreal... this is a CRAZY way of telling you a fuse is blown.

I did managed to force it into drive to get home... just had to push a little harder :) I don't think I damaged anything... shifted through the rest of the gears fine.

Thanks for the solution Daryl, I'll try it tomorrow.

Fuse was blown and replacing it solved the problem. Multiple forces into gear did not hurt anything.

HINT: There are no spares for the low profile fuses, so I pulled the 10A for the heated mirrors and used that until I could get more fuses.

Thanks for all your input around being stuck in Park. My 2008 Toyota Sienna did the same thing to me. Couldn't get it to shift into another gear and then the brake lights didn't work either. Thanks to what I found here I tried replacing the 10 amp fuse in the fuse box under the driver side dash board and viola, all is working again. I am sure you easily saved me around $150 bucks. Thanks again.

I also tried to change my rear brake light and got stuck in the Park position. Used the override button (which, when i called the dealer, he did not tell me about - said i had to get it towed to them). Cannot get a new bulb to work in the rear brake and also still stuck in park - did anyone find out anything? This sounds like a manufacturers problem to me.

ok - just read about replacing the 10amp fuse - how do you get into the "fuse box" on the driver's side?

Is the 10 Amp fuse the #45 in the manual?
