I have a 2000 RAV 4 had both brakes done and when I told them that I still hear the noises when I turn left and right. They checked it out and said that if it get worst to bring it in. I need my car to drive on the highway to and from work and I am worry that something might happen. Can someone tell me if they tell what to do next.

If it's only when turning, I would suspect either the steering rack or a front CV joint/axle. I think I would have more confidence in a mechanic who would take the time to check these items.

I hear a strange noise from the front (?)of my 1998 Toyota RAV 4. Doesn't seem to be there all the time. It lasts about a 1/2 a second is a loud whine, I can drive all day and not hear it then all at once I hear it. Just had Alignment, oil change and 4 new tires. Didn't have any noise till the tires got put on. But tire place doesn't see any thing wrong. Any idea???? Help

Wait and see if it gets worse.

Just took my car in for a safety recall (airbags) and they told me that steering intermediate shaft is making noise/loose and needs to be replaced.
Their quote was $977.
From reading this thread, it appears to be a very common problem. Toyota really should cover it.
I have not gotten it fixed yet because I wanted to take to a second mechanic to get a 2nd opinion.
My question is, how critical is it to get this done ASAP? Is it a safety hazard?

Since we're both in Northern Cal, I wanted to know how much dealers are charging you to make the repair. I was quoted $970 with tax included which seems outrageous compared to what others have quoted on this forum

2007 Rav4 Sport V6 about 54k miles. Front brake passenger side makes grinding noise while stopping at low speed. Sounds like the ABS is engaging that fronot wheel prematurely. The problem is intermittent which mekes it next to impossible to demonstrate to the mechanic. The car also makes a whinning sound which changes with engine speed, it also disappears after a while. Any comments welcome.

Henry wrote: We have a 2006 RAV4 Limited V6 (with 25K miles) and are experiencing the steering wheel popping/clunking noise like most people here. We have taken the car in 3 times for the same problem. So far, they've lubed the steering shaft, replaced the electronic steering pump unit and intermediate steering shaft. None them seem to cure the problem. And this time, the Toyota dealer is trying to convince us that it's normal and something we have to live with. Arghh... This is getting frustrated!!! Oh, we also start to notice that the radio is behaving funny. It's displaying weird squire characters. We are asking the dealer to have it replaced. I HAVE 2008 TOYOTA RAV 4 WITH POPPING NOISE IN FRONT END. STARTED ON LEFT AND IS GETTING WORSE. NOW OCCASIONALLY IN RIGHT. AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHILE SITTING STILL AND TURN STERING WHEL EVER SO SLIGHTLY. ANY ONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH 2008. I HAVE HAD IT IN 2 TIMES THE FIRST THEY TOLD ME THEY DID NOT HEAR IT. NOW THEY TELL ME I NEED CV JOINT SHAFT. ALMOST 500 DOLLARS. IT ONLY HAS 50K ON IT BUT IS OUT OF WARANTY. HOPE SOMEONE CAN TELL ME SOMENTING THAT HAS BEEN CHEEPER
