I've posted this to several Toyota forums.

When driving with the cruise control engaged, the slightest incline causes the automatic transmission to downshift significantly causing the RPMs to rev up to 5000 and the vehicle to buck and adjust. This happens on the relatively flat roads of southern NJ.

We took it in to the dealer and the service guy said that he's experienced the same thing. This is the first year that the RAV4 has a new computer controlled cruise control (I think he said the same thing on the 07 Camry). There is nothing the dealer can do because it's something that Toyota needs reprogram and give them some new firmware to download.

Any others having this issue?

Mine does the same exact thing. I have taken it in and of course they can find nothing wrong with it. I will be taking it in again, now that I have seen this post. Do you have anymore info on this topic.

I have had this exact same issue as well. I don't understand why this isn't under warranty?

Take off the computer one that doesn't work. Install a different one that does work.

I have this problem with my 2003 RAV4. I know it's a RAV4 issue because we also have a Matrix and under the same conditions the Matrix cruises at a steady speed with no jump in RPMs even on hilly highways.

Has anyone gotten a solution from Toyota or anyone else to fix this?

I have a 2007 RAV4 sport and it can be is dangerous with the cruise on.
Coming down a hill and up the next in traffice it will sometimes acceleratoe about 5 mph over the set speed and I have had to hit the brakes on more than one occasion.
And on hills it will accelerate radically and has started redlineing the tach before I turn the CC off. I imagine this is also killing my (lower thant expected) fuel milage.
Mine is due for the 20K oil change and I will be discussing this at that time. It did the redline for the first time this past week end.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Sagittarius

It's time to muster all your resources and energies and push through to the next level. The harmony between Mars and Saturn will support your efforts. If you need to dig deeper into shared resources or your credit facilities, now's the time to do so. With careful planning and perhaps family support, you can consolidate and somehow find greater security. This is a calculation not a risk though.
