2009 Camry. Stinky since 20,000 miles. Same run around from dealers. Relpaced evap box and douched system. Worked for about a month. Took back and the reply was they could not smell anything. Jedi mind tricks at best. Stink has gotten worse over time. I finally blew up at Toyota and they did the $160.00 cleanout service for free. That lasted for a week. Now they took the vehicle in to replace the evaporator, and said there was nothing wrong so they will not replace anything. Liars and cheats. That is the last Toyota that I will buy. I have bought six new Toyotas in the last 18 years, and I promise never, ever again. Honda, here I come. Toyota, KMA.

Shouldn't be all that hard to figure out. The condensate isn't draining from the unit. Or, you have LOTS of dead mice:)

I have a 2008 Toyota Camry that has mold smell in AC since buying new. Toyota supposedly changed the whole evaporate system, they had the car for several days. They removed my whole dash to take care of whatever they needed to do....well the smell is back as bad as ever and i will not pay them to rip apart my car again. it is no longer under warranty. I think someone needs to get the ball rolling on a class action lawsuit. This can not be healthy breathing in this mold. It is very obvious that Toyota has a major problem with the AC units. I am either going to sell my car or trade it for anything other then a Toyota...spread the word...drive a new toyota and get sick!!!

I sympathize with you, but there are millions of Camrys without that problem, so the system must work. The condensate must drain out of the unit completely, or you'll have a problem. It could be clogged or something. Maybe your dealer did what they said, maybe they didn't. It wouldn't be the first time.

My Prius V has an awful musty smell. Its completely embarrassing to have anyone ride in the car with me. Dealer says he's never heard of anyone having this problem. I told him to check the Internet!! Clearly this s a problem!! This can't be healthy! It's only 6 months old and already want to turn it in and get my Chevy back!

Sorry but there's plenty of information available to fix your alleged problem. Stop trolling.

I have a 2010 Rav4, bought new. It has had the problem from day one. I have noticed that no water drains during or after the AC is running like most cars do. So where is the water going?

It's turning into mold, hence the smell. My 2010 RAV pours water on the ground every time I stop, so apparently your car's drain is stopped up. Shouldn't be terribly hard to clean them.

2011 Prius. Same soured smell issue. Not moldy. Just soured. After having it for 3 months, I told the dealer about it and they said it would cost me 140 for a flush. After reading this I plan to return and insist upon the flush at no cost. I will then try the outside/inside air solution. I love my car but this is a thorn in my side!!!!!

I have a 2005 Avalon. I can't tell you how many filters (even top of the line charcoal filters) I have had replaced in this car. After just a few days, same old problem is back; gaggy stink I can hardly live with. I have had several Toyotas over many years. This is my last. Shame on you Toyota.

I have a 2010 Camry, and it seems like when ever I roll the front drivers side window down I get a very strong smell of something (smells like caulking or silicone). When the AC runs and the window is up the smell goes away, changed out the cabin air filter and problem never seems to go away.

My 2013 Camry has the same problem. Dealer made up a story and acted like it could happen all the time. My car has LESS than 6K miles on it.

I have a 2013 Camry that is about 6 months old. I have had the same problem and the dealer has told me they've never heard of anyone else with this problem. This is our first Toyota.....probably our last if this is how they treat customers.

I have a 2013 Highlander that has this problem very upset about it!! Had a 2012 Camry before that had the problem at 6 months of me owning the vehicle. They ran something through the vent system and the next day smell was back. Went back to dealer had to argue with them to get trade in for the Highlander and lost 2000.00 due to mileage and now Highlander has the same problem after 6 months. Took in to Dealer made a claim with manufacture because dealer said they have done all they can do. Manufacture responded that in the owners manual it states that this vehicle has this characteristic and there is nothing they will do about it!! Will not buy Toyota again I have done everything they say to do. Always run vent on fresh air and have used Lysol as instructed nothing works. frustrated

Bought new 2013 Avalon hybrid limited , and at around 4000 miles a naststy mildew / moldy smell, I replaced replaced the cabin air filter and the smell continued , took it to Toyota and they said it did not smell but they had sprayed some type of neutralizer or air purifier, the next day the smell got worse and I then sprayed some Lysol without any benefits, I then took it to Toyotaagain and they said this is not covered under warranty and I had to buy their foaming cleansing leansing system for the evaporator, I purchased the cleansing system took it to Toyota and the smell was gone for about 2 days, returned the car back to the dealer and after several discussions they agreed on repeating the cleansing system without any charge, once I received the car the smell slowly began the following day. I now have purchased another cabin air filter at around close to 10000 miles and the smell is not gone. Will seek legal advice , this is VERY DANGEROUS TO OUR HEALTH INHALING ALL THIS MOLD AND MILDEW.
Toyota has a problem and it has been ignoring it for a long time, this problem has been reported many times , just go online and read, they r not taking this seriously and may end up with a class action law suit.
By the way my car is always kept on fresh air mode and I make sure it is on fresh air mode before the car is turned off .

Have a Rav4 now the bring my second Toyota in 20 years the first one I had 15 yrs ago and it's striking how the problems are similar. Always had electrical problems & cooling system problems. Now a very unpleasant odour but you know the old saying "fool me once your fault, fool me twice my fault" I think the only thing stinky is Toyota
