1 Margo I am having the same problem with my 2004 Camry and I opened a Case Compliant with Toyota claiming a parts defect it is hard to believe that someone has to pay for a whole back panel at a price of $451.00 for the part plus labor. Which I was told would be $700.00 total with labor. The toyota dealership I bought the car from was surprised that toyota would not cover the cost since it was an opvious defect on the speaker covers. I am very disappointed in the quality parts toyota is using. I will not by another toyota if the company fails to stand by their product. |

My 2004 Camry has same problem, went to the dealer i was 1 month past the 36 month warranty but under the miles.service mgr is trying to get toyota to pay.still waiting. |

My 2003 Camry has the same problem. Toyota should recall it. Bad quality. I am so disappointed it. Two of my friends had the same problem also. They didn't notice that it was Camry's defect.

Just heard from the service manager at the Toyota dealer, he said Toyota would pay for the parts
$450.00 but not the labor $300.00 I'm still thinking about it. It should be noted that I was 1 month past the 36 month warranty, but under the miles so I guess that helped some.I will next file a case compliant with Toyota ,and see what happens. |

I have the same problem. This is obviously a quality issue with the speaker cover.I am not surprise to see a lot of people have the same problem.
We should all write to Toyota to give them some pressure. Better yet, video tape and post it on "U Tube" if they don't recall ... |

I have a 2002 Camry and have the same problem. Wow glad to know I am not the only one. My speakers just craked and caved in. The dealership told me that they have never seen that happen before and it must be because my car is kept outdoors in the sunlight. I was also quoted around $450 for the back panel part.
I am going to try and find the part at a junkyard or go to a audio dealer and have new speakers installed that might be cheaper. I am in full agreement that Toyota should do a recall. This is my third Camry and I have never had any problems. On this car, not only have my rear speakers broken apart, but my interior door handle cracked and now my passenger side airbag compartment is detaching from the dash. Wonder how much that will cost to fix? Uggg... |

I also have a 2002 Camary. The other day I saw a hole in rear right speaker grill. When I picked the piece, it just crumbled to dust. Its obviously a quality control issue with this specific part and Toyota should do right thing by doing a recall.
I am going to call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 ext 6 tomorrow and will post the outcome here. |

Same thing for me. Speaker covers crumbled like a Ritz cracker.
Call the service line often-800-331-4331 x6 and log your complaint. At this time they do not have a recall. Have everyone you know with a camry call.If they are not having the problem they will soon. I inspected 3 Camrys on my street and all showed the same thing. |

Geez, has this happened on the '06 models? One would think it is just a matter of time.
I was thinking about tinting the rear window, and this may help slow the aging process. I was looking the other day on how to remove the rear deck. Anyone have tips, suggestions, etc? |

This happened to my 2003 Camry as well. But alas, I can't entirely blame it on Toyota. My 3 year old threw a sippy cup behind his head and the speaker cover totally shattered. Anybody had any success finding a replacement option that is cheaper than doing the whole back panel? We're trying to get the car ready to sell and it's kind of an eyesore.
Thanks! |

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry LE and a gentle touch with a dust rag caused a piece of the speaker cover to cave in. The piece is about the size of a half dollar. The plastic is very brittle and turns to dust if you gently squeeze a small piece of it between your fingers. I was quoted $791 for the part alone and the local dealership (Hampton, VA) will not provide warranty coverage to replace it. The service manager stated that he HAS seen this before.

I also have 2003 Camry with the same problem. Both rear speaker covers are falling apart. I am very disappointed in the quality parts toyota is using.

I have a 2003 Camry with the same crumbling speaker grills. I hope someone comes up with an economical solution!
