I have read all the comments concerning problems with rear speaker covers for mostly 2003 and 2004 Toyota Camry. The Toyota company seems to be less than interested in the common problem with their speaker covers and refuses to accept responsibility for their poor design. Dealers are always ready to charge in excess of $500 for replacing a part that costs at best $25. I own a 2003 Toyota Camry LE and am experiencing similar problems as stated in all your messages. I am ready to file a law suit against the Toyota company and am interested to know how many of you are willing to file a class action law suit.

There's another link called Rear Speaker Covers that has 104 responses, including a $20 solution that actually works.

I have a 2005 Camry LE and had the same problem. I called Toyota customer service and had good results. I went to my local Toyota dealership in Birmingham, AL and they at first gave me the $600 option to replace the whole back deck. They researched further and found a replacement grill kit (Item# 04007-521AA-EO). This cost $20.00. Labor and parts totaled $106.92 of which I paid half and Toyota covered the other half. I am not thrilled about having to pay anything to repair a design flaw but it was a lot better than $600.

the parts guy at the Dealer i go to ,( chamblee georgia) said that there had been a "TSB" issued years ago regarding this issue . so toyota knew about it but didn;t notify the dealers until ? or did the dealers know about it and didn;t notify the car owners ? parts man said to see my my service advisor and I might get a discount . 2003 camry le with 38,000 miles on it . someone told me that Toyota bought unsealed speakers that would not protect them from the sunlight ! The delears want about $500 to replace the whole back panel with the speaker covers included . there is a retrofit for the speaker covers they can do .IF THEY WILL !

I guess I am joining the many disappointed with Toyota quality and customer concern. I have a 2002 Camry and both rear speaker grill covers have collapsed. The only consulation is that I don't have to buy another Toyota product. They have proven their quality and willingness to admit they have a defective part.

I am so surprised to see all of the comments regarding speaker covers for Toyota Camrys yet relieved that my daughter was not at fault. Sean, please let me know further if you pursue a legal action. Perhaps, we need to notify Consumer Report about this issue (as if they wouldn't already know!)and increase more awareness of this small yet expensive mishap!

Same here.... I have a 2004 Toyota Camry and my rear speakers covers have broken also. It's very tacky. I can't find replacement covers anywhere other then the Toyota dealership. The Toyota dealerships are overcharging what is obviously very cheap speaker covers.

My wife's 2003 Camry has the same speaker cover UV material break down problem. I called Toyota, the dealer, the servive manager, printed out the TSB instructions, looked at the replacement covers at the parts department, got a "no help" from Toyota service quote of $28 for parts,$200 for labor plus shop supplies and tax. I purchased "the replacement covers only" for $28. I proceded to break away the remaining oval hole in the old covers, then pulled up the covers from the deck lid breaking off or pulling out the 5 pegs holding them on. I used a shop vac to get all of the bits from the deck and speaker felt that protects the speaker. I then used a pair of pliers to grab and break off any remaining pegs. I then used a small phillips screw driver to push through the holes any remaing plastic. I fitted the new speaker covers into the top deck peg holes and found it to be a snug fit. Looks Great and fits tight. If I want to secure it more I will simply glue the metal push rings onto the deck around each peg hole, let it dry then push the new cover pegs into the locking push rings. This process took me 15 minutes and you can't tell anything was changed other than I now have the new speaker grill covers on like it was when new. Toyota Engineers need to design a simple snap on grill cover from the top!

I have a 2003 Toyota Camry LE and just noticed that the rear speaker covers have caved in. What in the world! I can see from this string that I am not the only one experiencing problems with this matter. I purchased my car from CarMax in 2006 and will call them to see what they are saying.

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry with this cheap excuse for speaker covers. I spoke with Toyota Customer Service. They told me to get a quote from the dealership.$200!!!($28 for the parts and $172 for labor) This is ridiculous! Why do I have to pay for them to repair a defective part that they knowingly put in our vehicles? I was told that Toyota is aware of this issue, but they are not issuing a recall because enough people have not came to them with this issue. PLEASE CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE at 1-800-331-4331, Follow the prompts to speak to someone about your "Toyota experience" and make sure they give you a case number. If enough of us do this maybe we can get our cars repaired without having to break the bank. TELL YOUR FELLOW CAMRY OWNERS!!! If anyone decides to take any action please post it on here.

I went to the dealer today and got the replacement grills and the TSB. Grills cost $20. I haven't tried replacing them yet. The TSB has the back cover taken out and drilling from the bottom. I think I will just try and drill from the bottom (trunk) and replace the grills like that. It looks like alot to take the back tray out

I just wanted to write to say THANK YOU! Your solution is by the far the easiest. I also have a 2005 Toyota Camry where the speaker grilles disintegrated. I went to the Toyota dealership yesterday and got them to print out the TSB on how to replace the speaker grilles. Your solution is far easier. I bought the replacement grilles for $20 and just popped them in. Like you said you can always glue them in later if needed but I don't think I'll have to. Worked out great! Thanks!

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aquarius

The more you want to control someone, or someone wants to control you, the more difficult life will be today. It's a Full Moon and a lunar eclipse, so the last thing you should do now is to act as though you own this person, or tell them what to do, because it will be an instant recipe for rebellion and trouble. Mars is retro in your house of significant others and open enemies after all. If you don't want to spoil the evening's celebrations you'll have to make compromises, and hope that this other person will do the same. Don't let the fuss stop you having a very happy New Year's Eve.
