This is really the only thing that ever went wrong with this car; I'm still pleased with it and will contiue to drive it until it runs into the ground!! My 2003 Camry started making the same sound last year. It drove me nuts. I found this forum after dealer explained it was out of warranty and cost $$$. So a year later the noise has subsided and the car still runs fine. Ignoring worked for me.

Mr Mac wrote: My 2003 4 cly. Camry with 45,00 miles developed the same problem in the Intake manifold. It is covered by a Technical Service Bulletin (TSA) but only if the owner specifically complains about it. It is covered in the Warrenty booklet too. It is under Long Term Emission Defect Warranty, page 20 and 22, for seven years or 70,000 miles. I have an appointment at the dealer, Boch Toyota, we'll have to wait and see how it comes out. Mr. Mac How did you make out? DId Toyota warranty the repair?

my 03 camry developed this problem, it has 130K miles, I guess reporting to Toyota is a waste of time! does it matter to the engine if I leave it alone although the noise is annoying! Does it impact its fuel efficiency? what with gas prices on the up maybe I should get it fixed? I know very little about car engines!

Turn up the radio.

Peter wrote: <quoted text> Is it possible to send me the pictures? Or exact instructions Peter, did you ever get a response with pictures and instructions? I would like to try it. Toyota quoted $800 for the repair and it seems worthwhile trying this repair.

I see lot of people still have the problem of rattling intake manifold. I invite you to take a look at this article ( http://gorup-sinkovec.net/diy/rattling-noise-... ) for a fix. The site goes on and off (inaccessible during Europe night time), so try at different times.

2003 camery = same problem a. Dec 15, 2008:replaced (by my independant car mechanic) intake manifold at 40.5K miles for $650.00.(I changed it out as the noise was finally getting to me). b. Dealer said tough luck. c. State of Mo. said tough luck; but they did answer my consumer complaint. d. Wrote several letters to Toyota. They eventually gave me a coupon for $650.00 but had one year to use it at a Toyot Dealership. OK, thats better than nothing. e. Now milage = 70,600 and same problem....same irritating noise. So every 30,000 miles or so I am going to have to change out the intake manifold??? f. I hate to say it but I actually thought I got a new re-designed intake manifold that wouldn't have the same problem. g. I have not read all the responses, but I did see the one where the owner took off the intake manifold and fixed ???? the problem. Didn't seem easy. the end.

Intake manifold wrote: The intake manifold is part of the power train. It says just that in my 2003 manual. That warranty is 5 years and 60K miles. The dealer is not telling you the truth. Please send complaints to NHTSA . This intake manifold issue is a Toyota flaw.

Everyone on this thread should complain to the National Transportation Safety Authority(NTSA) in regards to the defective intake manifold for the 2003 camry

I had the same problem start on my Toyota Camry 2003 about 3 months ago. Finally I couldn't stand it anymore. My local mechanic told me about the technical service bulletin and suggested that I talk with the local Toyota dealership to see if they would fix it for me for free. Of course that didn't happen. I have a little over 81,000 miles on it and even though I have 4 Toyota vehicles my local dealership was not willing to work with me. I called a dealership about 30 minutes from my home and they were willing to let me order the part and install it for $100. The part(17120-0H010) from the Dallas Toyota Dealership cost me $311 + shipping. I will be saving about $150 thanks to this forum and the dealership that would work with me. Thanks for the info.

I have a 2007 Camery with 79000 miles. We get a moan from the steering column each time we make a turn. I always seem to be ahead of the curve but is there anything out there? Can's stand it.
