don't give up on your paint problem ,you may have to get legal advice ,lets not let Toyota get by with this. Carolyn B |

I have a 08 Tacoma with poor paint, scratches easily and chips in abundance also you can see the primer in certain areas. Toyota has refused to be of assistance, I have gone all the way to the top with them.My next step is to have the paint inspected for thickness etc...I need evidence to be successful when I go legal.

Automotive painting is a science.
A typical finish consists of four layers: 1) electrocoat - provides corrosion protection 2) primer - protects electrocoat, stone chip resistance, adhesion between basecoat and elctrocoat 3) basecoat - provides color to the vehicle 4) clearcoat - sunlight protection, scratch resistance, gloss and appearance properties Film thickness is a criteria used by the auto industry to ensure durability. Each of the 4 layers must be at the proper film thickness specification. If any of the individual layers is below specification. The vehicle would be considered a factory paint defect. A visible manifestation of low film thickness is paint peeling, body rusting and stone chipping. Since the mid 1990s the auto industry while retaining ownership of the paint facilities have outsourced the process and quality responsibilities to multiple paint suppliers. Outsourcing in this application is defined as a process in which a company assigns its in-house operations to a third party. Specifics on automotive paint suppliers roles within the facilities may be found in textbooks published both in Europe and America. The most recent textbook being released in 2008. The paint suppliers actively market and advertise their outsourcing expertise with terms such as "Cost Per Unit" or "Pay As Painted" supplier programs. Outsourcing [Cost Per Unit] programs are common throughout Europe and America within the auto industry. Not all vehicle flaws are associated with the paint itself, vehicle design and weathering will impact the vehicle's finish. It is our opinion that the automaker, auto dealer and consumer should not receive a vehicle painted below the automaker's film thickness specifications of any of the four layers that comprise a vehicle's finish. We have analyzed the film thickness data of over 11,000 vehicles and have found that the measurements are below the automakers' specifications. Low film thickness will cause paint failures. Investigation summarized in press releases: http://www.mmdnewswire.com/auto-industry-6716... and http://www.mmdnewswire.com/vehicle-paint-qual... A quick internet search for the following: Toyota Paint Problems, Toyota Paint Peeling Ford Paint Problems, Ford Paint Peeling GM Paint Problems, GM Paint Peeling Chrysler Paint Problems, Chrysler Paint Peeling Honda Paint Problems, Honda Paint Peeling Nissan Paint Problems, Nissan Paint Peeling will return results back in the millions. Public Interest best served by a "Truth in Finish Disclosure" with the purchase of any vehicle. |

Guess atleast the paint problem with your toyota is not a safty issue!!!! With all the unfixable problems that become "normal" when toyota can not come up with a fix, could not come soon enough.
Google 07 camry transmission problems Do you think this floor mat thing turned to pedal problem is related to the dangerous hesitation problem that becomes normal when the three tsb's fail to fix this problem?? |

I have a 2009 camry se and the paint is comming off the front end.Toyta REP said it was caused by rock chips.I see now im not the only one that has been told that.My car only has 22.000 miles on it. Took it to other places and thay said it is bad adhesion. The REP said toyota would cover 25percent. The car is still under a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty , is that how toyota takes care of there customers.

Do an internet search for factory paint defect or paint peeling. Thousands of results are returned for each of the automakers. Anytime a paint issue occurs, the durability criteria should be examined for each of the 3 - 5 layers that comprise a vehicle finish. This would assist in determining if the defect is not a factory paint defect. Design, environmental and common TSBs issues could then be examined.

I also have a 2009 camry SE this is my 5th and last toyota, the front bumper paint just peeled off at 35,800 miles... no dents or accidents.. the body shops say that it is a paint defect. Toyota rep states that it is not a defect and they will allow me to pay their cost to have it repaired. They say a rock hit the car and probably started paint chips and that is how the paint peeled off.. the paint was there one day no chips at all and then I had the car washed brushless and the paint was gone... NO MORE TOYOTAs for me... so a repair of less than 200 dollars will cost them a loss of a lifetime customer... their loss....wish I new how many other people out there have the same issue.. we should get together and file a suit... please post! |

Judged: 1 The most recent automotive coatings handbook used in the nation's top Coatings Research institute documents the life of a vehicle finish should last 15 years. This is information directly from the Paint Manufacturers' textbook on the subject. We have contacted Toyota directly on this issue to review the data that exists for their paint durability criteria. Durng November, there were newscasts on Ford's issues with their paint (google: Ford paint peeling and police cruisers, Aurora, Colorado). Newscasts documents 40 cities around the nation where paint is peeling off polic cars. In our opinion, the automakers should help the consumer by holding the paint supplier accountable. This is not occurring. On other blogs, success have been reported by other vehicle owners with paint issues by pursuing Small Claims Court Action.(Note: We are not a law firm and do not offer legal advice.) An investigation is required. Claims made by the paint suppliers for durability are contradicted by the paint failures that are occuring. |

Judged: 1 i have a 2011 white camry and having the same issue! they are sending a factory rep to look at my car this tuesday. I have paint chipping and rust on the rim of the hood by the wipers. The dealership told me I must have chipped it off during the winter while chipping away ice...seriously? I told them I keep my car in the garage and asked why new spots are developing. the guy just stared at me with no response. |
