Consumer Reports: Toyota ranked most reliable

thats a very bold statement coming from an uneducated middle american. Im glad to see that your still living in the 1940s but i thought middle america was only 50 years behind the rest of the US. Im also glad that you can still support a company that is on the verge of bankruptcy and the only companies that are still profiting from auto sales are the ones that you feel are inferior. Toyota is the greatest contributor to environmental protection of any other auto manufacturer. I know that doesn't have any relevance to you in the middle of no where but like i said you're a few decades behind...Toyota also produces the highest quality vehicles, unlike fords that spend more time in the shop than on the road.

What you all should do is buy the issue and read up on all of them. The results are closer than the trib article leads you to believe.... surprise surprise. As an example, Consumer Reports lists the new Chevy Malibu as being the near equal, and I do mean NEAR EQUAL to both the Accord and Camry and it's considerably less expensive equally equipped, so draw your own conclusions.

In addition, the Malibu, which has won numerous industry awards, and Cadillac CTS are Car and Driver 10 Bests and the CTS was Motor Trend Car of the Year in 2008.

You're lying. you don't even know how to SPELL Corolla. I owned a Toyota truck, and put 150k miles on it without a single problem. Then I sold it for more than 50% of what I paid new. My '04 Corolla is the best car i have ever owned bar none.
Furthermore, I have the Dec. issue of Consumer Reports. In the reliability article, it states that Ford is EQUAL to Honda and Toyota for reliability. That means that Accord, Taurus or Camry, all are good. So, American Manufacturers can do it, if they want to.

Did you know that the CEO of GM made as much money as the top 20 executives of Toyota combined? THAT'S why they're in trouble.

I have had a lot of american made cars including Ford, GM, and Chrysler made. I also have had cars from Honda, Nissan and Mazda. In virtually every car I owned the american cars needed far more repairs and spent more time in the shop then the japanese cars. Every single one of my japanese cars has gone over 100K. Not one of my american cars even reached 90K. Not only did I lose time by having my american cars in the shop but I had to pay for repair after repair at a time when I could not afford it. I am always open to buying an American car but I have to admit, it will take a lot of convincing for me to go back now after routinely having japanese cars going well over 100K with minimal repairs and only maintenance.

My experience is not that unique. There are millions of people who have have found Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans, Volvoa etc to be overhyped pieces of junk. Detroit, like the rest of US industry is suffering from foreign competitors cheaper products. Americans have gotten stupid. We don't care about quality anymore, only cost. How can I lie about a personal experience? My Nissan Sentra died at 125K. My Toyota is falling apart at 130K. My Olds Ciera has 215K and my wife's Saturn has 185K. Ho wcome you foreign cars nuts get so worked up when someone disagrees with you? Are you afraid someone will find out how full of it you are or are you just embarrassed to admit you drive a pice of junk you paid too much money for?

We're sure your experience is what you say it is, but the point remains that the Corolla is one of the best selling cars in the world and I doubt it's because it's a piece of junk. Buy what you want and leave it at that.

How many Big 3 factories have closed down in the USA in the past 10 years?

How many new factories in the USA have been built by forgein based automotive manufacturers?

The Big 3 cars are not as American as they used to be!!

Forgein based car manufacturers are more American than they used to be!!

Ford trucks may be really good, but it's been my personal experience, and that of my family, that Ford cars are incredibly unreliable. I had a close family member buy a 1995 Ford Contour in 1996. It was a lease return with 14,000 miles. IN the 22 months that followed, she had that car back in the Ford dealership 11 times for major maintenance. Fortunately, that maintenance was covered by a warranty. After 22 months, and 11 trips to the shop, they STILL couldn't correct it. She finally traded it in for a Honda Civic than ran perfectly for four years before trading it in for a Honda CRV that also had zero problems for 4 years.

Other family members have also had problems with Ford cars and sworn to NEVER buy them again. Ford has nothing but itself to blame for its poor reputation and slumping sales with respect to Honda and Toyota these last couple of decades.

Because Americans don't make their purchases with a "macro view." They make their purchasing decisions based on a "micro-economic" view. Who wants to buy a car that they're going to have to pay a mechanic to fix more often? I' not going to pluck down $25,000 on a car that I know is probably going to break more often just so I can spend more money in the future etting it fixed. That's stupid!!

Foreign cars are cheap crap for the most part. But Americans are about as loyal as a 2 bit hooker. No patriotism, no loyalty.

Unfortunately, too many American businesses from automotive manufacturers, banks, and airlines consist of pompous Ivy League MBA grads at the top who only make quick buck decisions and low-skilled grunt laborers who are waiting to head out for happy hour.
