I am the original owner of a 1988 Fiero Formula. The yellow V6, 5 speed is my weekend toy. Despite a bad reputation, the 5th and last model year was the best. After a successful launch in 1984, the 2.5, 4 cylinder commuter was given a much needed V6. Overheating engines forced a recall, insurance rates went up and the Fiero never recovered. Too bad, because in 1988 the suspension was retooled, it hugs the road like a go cart. In 89 it was going to get a 50hp boost via the Quad4 hi-output. It would have been a rocketship. I'm glad I still own mine, 46,000 miles and problem free. The Solstice is a modern day Fiero in my eyes, done right from the start. Thanks Mr. Lutz, mission accomplished.

I hope you know, you are one lucky man.
Does it have a T-top? Enjoy every meter.
Yes, you are a very lucky guy.

I've seen the design for the 89' Fiero and did not care for the Trans Am look alike styling. The Fiero should have had the same unique mid engine body style since the Miata body didnt change much until 2005.
Leave it to GM bureaucracy and mismanagement, they screwed up the Fiero as a unique Pontiac product and let the Miata became an icon while the Fiero became a foot note in automobile history.

If Pontiac were to have a successor to the Fiero they should have come out with a Lotus Elise look alike to acknowledge the original concept of the Fiero because The Solstice does not have a mid engine soul at all.

The Fiero should have had power assist steering from the very beginning. In order to parallel park the car or to maneuver it when it is sitting still in a tight parking spot,a person can't turn the steering wheel with one hand/arm easily without having to use both hands/arms and have to to really force the wheel since it was so heavy and stiff. It was a real work out for sure.

Pontiac never listened to the customers who complained about the car's hard steering at low speed and they should have been ashamed for putting out a car with a major fault like that.

Car and drivers critics called the Fiero's heavy steering "its worst fault" in an 4/88 issue. They called the steering "numb", "Novacained until stuporous" in an 11/84 article.

Over 52 percents of the Fiero's sales were to women and they were very sensitive to the heavy steering and Pontiac never made any effort to improve the car's steering effort and it helped contributed to the demise of the car.

Twenty five years ago,GM didn't care about quality and it lost customers in droves and if you look at its past history,it is not hard to understand now why it might go bankrupt.

So if you had the opportunity to purchause an 88 Pontiac Fiero and revamp as people do with hotrods would you? And how much do you think a Fiero is worth in your eyes?

I own an 85 gt and a regular 87 and I wouldn't want to change one thing about my cars. The only problem that I am having now is the 87 has t-tops and leaks on me when it rains.
