They should quit, completely re tool, re structure cars re-name cars, and re-open under a New Name. Do it right and stop wasting my tax dollars.

I drive a Dodge Neon with 90,000 miles. Most reliable little car i've ever had. It is amazing what regular maintenance can do for a car's longetivity. I've owned 2 Toyotas, a Honda and a Cadillac in my life time and from experience I can say that as long as a vehicle is properly maintained and not abused, it will always be reliable and not fall apart.

OK so the opinions of less than a dozen people are supposed to represent all of Long Island. What a crock! How about writing a balanced article that has opinions from both sides of the issue.

I had owned a new 1974 Buick Regal and it rusted apart before I had it paid off. I then bought a new 1982 Chevy Blazer and the cam shaft wore out at 34,000 miles. The roof leaked, the rear shock mount broke, the tranny went bad, the A/C stopped working, it rusted badly, the rear window crank broke. Then, try taking it back for repairs!! They don't want to know you after you buy the vehicle and drive out of the lot. I then bought a 1993 Lincoln Mark V111 with 9,000 miles and racked the mileage up to 346,000! I now own a 2007 Honda Civc.

Get your act together GM if you want to survive and stop screwing the public. You better start kissing some American public behinds if you want our business. And I don't mean kiss our behinds and then go back to your old ways!!

The corporate greed finally caught up with GM. They lost touch with the product they produced and lined their pockets instead. Now they will all pay the price. This all looks pretty phony anyhow. Through the taxpayers we gave GM a whole bunch of money in November and December and they went belly-up. What happened to all the money? They get bankrupt protection from the government, keep the cash and continue to build cars without consumer confidence. There is something missing here.
We need more Indians not Chiefs! The success in the Japanese market came from the workers and management working together to build a good product. We need a place for the American people to prove once again we can be the best.
I can only hope that Ford works with their people and comes back stronger than ever.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also drive a Nissan because I cannot afford a new car every two-three years. I need dependable transportation so I can work and pay taxes. I have to save to buy. I am not a corporate executive that gets to use stock-holders money for my own purposes.

When I see that GM building it makes me sick. Why so big and fancy. That had to be a big number to build. I think they are way out of hand with there spending. I would not want to see what the big shots of this company live in. Only in america! What goes around comes around eventually. They did it to themselves (selfish) They had no money for the rainy day.

This is a total farce. The same idiots in charge will be right back to mess things up again. This company is not going out of business. Wake-up America! The government is relieving them of their debt and allowing them to restructure. The taxpayers of the United States will be paying for this forever and ever. If you do not share the wealth from the bottom up this is the net result. If the workers in United States have no money to spend, how do we feed the greedy CEO’s?

You do not see this happening with the other auto makers do you? Why, because their management people controlled their spending and listened to their workers. They work together towards a common goal. GM spent the profits and saved nothing, took no advice from anyone and now their restructuring and realigning themselves to repeat their normal selfish ways.

Everyone they interviewed was driving a foreign car. Since 1976 I've driven new Suburbans and Silverado pickups. I've had minor problems over the years but always kept the vehichles well maintained and always sold them with more than 100,000 miles on them to buy another. My last Silverado pickup had 340,000 miles on her and was still going strong.I currently have a 2006 Silverado with 166,000 miles and hope to buy another in 2011.

I drive a 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo, before that I had a 99 Monte Carlo, then a 92 Jeep, I have only once had a foreign car it was a Subaru and I hated it. I also own a 96 GMC Jimmy with almost 200,000 miles on it and it is absolutely great. We also have a 06 Ford Mustang. I will continue to buy American. If the people who buy foreign would stop and think you are the problem. Taking your money to a foreign car company. Traitors.

The shame of it is that we must all care. Thanks to that liberal commie bone head president obama and the rest of the democraps we - the American people - now own 60 percent of this bankrupt company and that's after the billions we poured into them in the last year. I think obama's goal is to simply trash this country.

Most of my former Chevrolets began to break down after two or three years, and that's with proper maintenance. Bodies by Fisher were like tin cans, rusted quickly and dented easily with the exception of my Corvettes.

Most interviewed never owned a domestic car, and the few that did was at least 15 years ago.

You can but what you want , but do not comment on domestic reliability if your reference is third hand info.

I have owned both and each has had its advantages. Really dislike Honda as very generic. Currently own a 2006 Trailblazer and 2008 Expedition.

I am not a fan of Chevy as the feel of the interior is cheap. I had a 2005 Explorer that was much better. The trailblazer is only three years old, but never had a problem, nohting.

When I got rid of the explore last year i test drove the Tahoe, but the interior still seemed cheap, as well as overpriced for what was offered.

The 2008 Expedition is nicest car I have ever owned. The ride is great nad I hope it is as reliable as my 2005 explorer was.

*When my explorer was two weeks old a severe storm knocked down most of the trees on my block and many cars were crushed. An 80 ft Pine tree in my front yard snapped and landed square on across my sunroof on my truck. No major damage at all, not a single crack in any of the glass, just surface damage and a lot of sap.

I was impressed.

Can anybody discuss reliability issues in the last 8-9 years?

GM needs to come up with something innovative, such as an electric car or a really good hybrid. I know it's a long shot and many are laughing at the suggestion. I voted for Mr. O but I am disappointed that he's loaning out so much money and the outcome will most likely be questionable.

That was just the actual debt left after 30 years of Ronny Alzheimers thru George Dumbya. Obama has only begun, and the hole he's trying to spend us out of was the Pit dug by Bush and his Republican Big Spenders.

TWO Republican Depressions (Hoover & Bush)in the past century, I think you'd better stop voting for those clowns, you like every other American, can no longer afford them.

The world over produces cars, GM isn't needed, except to make work for a lot of Americans. The Japanese build better cars, even when they build them here in the U.S.

GM needs new executives, and none of what steered them into the wall.

Maybe they should try recruiting in Japan where they understand quality, and how to achieve it.

My last GM car was a Oldsmobile with a diesel engine that I off loaded a year later, that was in the early 1980's. I won't be going back anytime soon. The alternatives are just way better.
