BMW keeps certain ads from black media: Rev. Jesse Jackson is on the case.

Full story: www.eurweb.com

*Rev. Jesse Jackson is trying to figure out why BMW issued a "Non Urban Dictate (NUD)" (a.k.a. no ad spots in urban media) for an upcoming advertising campaign surrounding one of its vehicle brands. The Westside Gazette is reporting that the civil rights leader sent a letter to the automaker expressing concern over the NUD stamp on future ads touting the MINI Cooper. NUD basically means that a company does not want their marketing and advertising materials placed in media outlets that target urban (African American) audiences. Tom Joyner spoke out about the practice on his radio show in 2004, when CompUSA was discovered using it. At the time, he called out more than 20 other companies who had a NUD policy in effect – including Lexus, Starbucks, Ethan Allan, Northwest Airlines and even Life Savers. In his letter to BMW Chairman and CEO Jim O’ Donnell, Jackson called the exclusion of urban radio stations "disturbing," according to The Westside Gazette. His letter further stated: “This issue, along with many others, continues to boycott communities of color and excludes us from participating on a level economic playing field even when we fully embrace and purchase your vehicles.”

Can you blame them?

No one want to waste advertising dollars on a race of people who either consider these products useless or simply steal them.

Reason is that if a black is in the commercial you have to be very, very careful so they dont yell racisim. that is why there are so few blacks in the commercials

the powers within In a new August 17, 2009 Maddow show segment [link to MSNBC page with viewable show segment], Rachel Maddow and Jeff Sharlet discuss, among many new revelations, the disturbing fact that the "Christian Embassy" scandal, propelled by a complaint to the Department of Defense from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, was investigated by a Pentagon Inspector General who is in fact a Family member.
The Family, also known as "The Fellowship", is a secretive fundamentalist Washington DC ministry which runs the National Prayer Breakfast and Bible study groups attended by numerous US Senators and Congress members, wields global influence, and celebrates the leadership lessons of Hitler, Lenin, and Mao.

Hahaha! Yup -- or buy Japanese-but-made-in-America and still save $$.

I think it's ridiculous that Rev. Jackson is acting offended when the advertisers might be HELPING US OUT, ie. giving AAs a chance to refrain from the ridiculous conspicuous consumption that way too many of our peeps indulge in.

Now I can understand if minority-owned radio stations are feeling some pain from not getting those advertising dollars.... BUT that is something for media entrepreneurs to fret about, not ordinary black folks.

Regular working folks have far more pressing issues to worry about during this recession.

Honestly, who gives a f*ck about BMW high priced cars anyway. Blacks are better off buying something more affordable with good gas mileage, imho.

F*ck anybody that doesn't want to do business with the black community. This is exactly why we need our own. Just like Malcolm X said.

They don't call it a Black man's Wish for nothing. Why would you advertise in an area where the people couldn't possibly afford it? Chances are their welfare checks only cover crack and diapers.

I'm wondering how many of these cars AAs will buy regardless of the no advertisements. I think Jesse Jackson is working for the other team.

This is Marketing 101.. How many Blacks do you see driving a mini cooper?? Blacks are not the target audience for that product period! Media in General is Racist!! GET IT! UNDERSTAND IT! GET OVER IT!!
With all the companies that excludes blacks..we are less than the 13% of the population, have the lowest wages, and are the #1 CONSUMERS!!! <<--(PROBLEM)
Let's deal with the real problem...

you are correct sir, even the germans do not respect them, if you ever go there you will see that only mercedes is the car of choice. bmw is like a work truck only good for working on the farms.

Oh my God. I'm getting ready to purchase a new car before years end and BMW was one that I was considering. Well thanks to this bit of info, BMW is now off my list. I think I'm gonna go with the 2010 Buick Lacrosse

or the Lexus gs 300

That's right, black people let every one stonewall them. I have the solution and it doesn't involve marching or whining. Don't buy their damn cars, simple as that! It's money in your pocket.

Certain ads never had blacks in them. Polo and Tommy Hilfiger didn't start using them until the trend was already over.

Yea but thats because black business don't buy ads in black media. I mean what is it, we cannot rely on mainstream society to right our wrongs, like unemployment, crime. We're gonna have to solve these ourselves if you want something to get done. black businesses need to advertise! in black media.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Aquarius

Avoid making promises today, or even believing in other people's promises. Today is not a good day to make commitments, as they are not likely to materialise. Taking risks is a no-no. Try to relax until the numbers are in your favour. Those pursuing their career will benefit.
