Crawford is in a dream world and has not clue how the tax system works. Just say what he "thinks" the voters want to hear. Problem is, he is not hearing the voters.

Then the Gov needs to put a hold on their paychecks as any other person that fails in doing their job. Hopefully some unknowledgable assessor with push their home property taxes to equal their legislative pay!

What is wrong with these guys? Don't they understand all Hoosiers want property taxes to go away, period.

We want government to cut spending, which they are unwilling to do. All they want to do is increase taxes AGAIN.

VOTE THEM OUT IN NOVEMBER.

If people remember this in November and dish out defeats like they did last November, it will send another broadside against the politicians.

I have never seen politicians quake in their Mahogany chairs like they did last year after the election. Now when the rubber hits the road, they're so scared of the voters they're afraid to do anything. By the time they vote on it it will be watered down so much that it will be as worthless as they are.

When politicians are more worried about getting re-elected than doing what's right, democracy is failing and it is up to the voters to vote the career politicians out and put fresh faces in!

Here is Indiana's current property “tax cut” plan:

•Reduce the increase in tax deductible property taxes and shift the entire tax burden to non-deductible sales taxes.

•Increase the local income tax

•Reduces no government spending

•Eliminates no duplicate layers of local government.

•Phases in the property tax reduction over a period of years (if at all), while the increase in the sales tax and local income tax will take effect immediately.

Don't believe the "tax cut" and "tax cap" rhetoric mindlessly repeated by the media.

This tax shell game is a huge TAX SHIFT combined with a TAX INCREASE.

Just wait until the great depression hits and it will. These arrogant bast-rds with be out on the street. They just keep taxing and spending, there will be no tax decrease they will just raise other taxes to compensate for the property tax. We need a good old fashion tax revolt/national strike. Vote all incumbents out/ Vote libertarian.

Here we go again, more politicians making earlier remarks they will never backup.

We the people are no longer being represented, we need to vote every single one of them out come November.

I don't care if schools and government has less money to operate. Look at the services they put out now, bad leadership that cannot spend money wisely or in a responsible fashion. Children who are so mistaught they cannot pass tests European children would laugh at if given to them.

Perspective first: I am a public school mentor, volunteer for church and school sports and fine arts, and with my wife an adoptee of a child through the state of Indiana. This doesn't make me or zillions like me any more than a citizen attempting to be responsible. However, citizens can't fulfill our duties without government help. The help we need is to stop routinely giving away our precious, hard-earned tax dollars to non-citizens and those that choose irresponsibility as a lifestyle. A helping hand is understandable until it becomes an entitlement. Let's be fair with taxation, frugal with spending, and have expectations of responsibility and citizenship from our citizens.

Chicago now the highest tax city in the nation after passing a 1% sales tax increase.

How does Indianapolis rank after our proposed 1% increase in sales tax?

It is funny that the only thing agreed upon is the 1% sales tax increase. The whole property tax system needs to go away and base the whole thing on sales or income. This way as your income disappears, you pay less tax. It makes so much sense that it will never pass. The local government complains that their money will dry up if we all lose our jobs. Well, government should cut back as well during a recession.

I know this has nothing to do with this story but could someone tell me if we are going to get our homestead credit rebate checks in Marion county or did I hear it would be in a refund on our next installment or sent to the lender? I missed it when they announced it officially. Everybody I know in TH has all ready received theirs........even if their taxes are paid by a lender. I guess the mail can't be trusted here.

We've got to quit governing like this!

The bipartisan government-reform panel led by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard and former Gov. Joe Kernan recommend the elimination of 1,155 units of government and 5,833 fewer elected officials statewide saving $400 million each year.

Message from former Governor Joe Kernan:

We don't need to increase the renters deduction. We certainly don't need to increase the earned income deduction. These Democratic proposals have nothing whatsoever to do with property tax reform. They're just holding the real legislation hostage to their welfare mentality grab for money. Cap these property taxes and stop mucking up real reform with your pork projects. Makes me embarassed to have ever voted Democratic.

Is anyone surprised? Your very taxes at work, paying these guys to sit around with their know it all attitudes while the taxpayers wait for relief. We should have known they would amend and talk it to death. I read where one legislator said they weren`t afraid of november, said they`d heard that all before. If true, why are they working on a bill at all? Oh wait, for show of course. Then they can all sit around and point fingers at each other and say "he killed it". Just more and more of the elitist attitude these guys develop as soon as they are elected. No matter their experience, education or background. Get elected and they are suddenly wiser and above the voters and taxpayers. I`m fed up, how about everyone else? Remember, remember come november.
