<quoted text> I also have a 2001 Kia sportage which the frame is completely rusted. The brakes went right to the floor while driving the mechanic could NOT believe the INCREDIBLE CHASSIS ROT found while replacing the brake line. I Cannot believe NHTSA Does not require RECALL. This is insanely dangerous please have your chassis checked for ROT especially around the gas tank and the cross member that holds both chassis rails together. My mechanic showed me the rot and holes in my chassis and recommended vechile Unsafe for Driving on Road. Thanks Hope this helps 2001 kia sportage owners.
Just took my 2002 Kia Sportage, bought last year, in for an inspection and could not believe how many large rust holes the frame had. A welder has been working on it for 2 days now.
Who do i report this to or submit a complaint against Kia in Canada to ?

P.S.
That was just the frame i was talking about in my previous post.
You don't even want to get me started about the rest of the underbody, gas and brake lines that need to be replaced as well !!!

I have a 2000 Kia Sportage Ex 4x4. My frame is rusted and snapped the other day. Its awful. I have no car and its been towed twice. I am from the greenwood/indianapolis indiana area. I just bought this in Jan added new brakes and stuff. I have 6,000$ in this rust bucket. I only drove it 6 k miles. It rusted from the inside out on the frame......I need to fix it or junk it for parts. runs great...shame

I have a 2000 Kia Sportage. My frame completely rusted and couldnt drive the car. I paid 1300.00 to have it fixed and the only spot my frame guy didnt fix last june is now rusted through. I called Kia...which was useless. Then I filed a complaint with the NHTSA. They are looking into it but everyone that has this problem needs to contact them so they can do something about it. very very dangerous that a frame can fall apart while you are driving your car
I have a 2001 Sportage Limited. The Limited must stand for limited steel. My rear end that supports the brake line is rusted right through and not repairable. That's pretty bad for a ten year old car. File a complaint everyone. The more they get the more they'll hear us. You might not get any compensation but you will probably save lives.

Same here john. I actually took mine to a loacal welder. I had the rear cross member that the brake line is supported by. He's making a new piece and says my kia will be fine after he is done. Its over a grand to fix

I hope your welder is correct. That your vehicle will be fine after he is done. I have been monitoring this problem for 4 years. You can weld new pieces or repair the steel that is there {our chassis) but we have been sucked in by KIA. The steel used on some of our chassis is inferior and rears it's ugly rusty head when exposed to winter weather. Not our fault but KIA won't own up there poor decision on the early sportage's. Have the pic's to back up everything I have said.

Yeah, me to. Its still in the shop. Its the crossmember that rusted away. The local salvage yards don't have em. Said if they get a Kia, usually its already rusted. Just a shame. Kia could have used some vasoline( if you know what I mean) Honestly, and no offense to anyone, if I had money, I wouldn't have bought a used sportage with 100k miles on it! I actually just got another car. Its a 2000 Chevy extreme. Its not what I wanted (4x4) but it will do. I am going to break the Kia back in slowly this time and hope itbdoes well. I'm just sick to my stomach about this. I'm over 8,000 dollars on this crap Kia.I bet half the higher ups at Kia don't even drive one. I'm sure some are required, but I bet they didn't pay for it. Total junk!

My 2002 is just as bad falling apart! The entire rear frame is splitting and holes and falling apart. Went to fix the exhaust today and seen it for the first time I was shocked to all heck how bad it was! I doubt kia will do a damn thing about it either!

I filled a complaint with the NHTSA but I won't hold my breath anything will be done!

What a joke only has 40k miles on it and it's falling apart already KIA sucks in my opinion and I won't ever buy another one!

I have been monitoring this site for a few years now.... I have also registered complaints with NHTSA I am now beyond being flabergasterted and outraged with the lack on Kia Motor Co , NHTSA , and/or any other media outlet that only have to look underneath one of these deathtrap chassis.
I pray every owner of our early kia sportage's will look underneath the rear of their vehicle before something tradgic happens that No One Seems to Care About. Rusted Out in Lakeville.
These complaints are real and could be deadly...
Good Luck Lizzy
I would not even take a Kia if it was given to me

I have had my 2011 Kia Sportage in a couple of times for warranty repair regarding the steering wheel controls. They have changed the clock spring twice because the controls will go haywire/backwards when using the controls on the steering wheel. Volume up, and it goes down. Try and change modes, and it goes backwards too. In order to correct it I can hit/tap the steering wheel and the controls will go back to normal. Anyone had any problems like this and or ideas on how to repair?
Thanks,

Not an easy job. last one i had 30 hrs into it but patched, sanded, painted & undercoated it. Looks like new! Clean 'em all up, sticker them & make some cash. Finishing up a 2000 tomoro...any takers :)

Yes,kia sportages have lots of issues with a frame. I am a used car dealer and i buy those trucks all the time. At the moment i have an 02 sportage with 70K and the frame is gone.
I know that toyota and nissan companys buy their cars back if the frame is rusted through and its simply unsafe to be on the road.
My question is if anyone knows if kia buys back vehicles under 10 years old and under 100k if the car is beyond repar?
