I REFUSE to pay $35000 for a Jeep POS, even though it gets decent mileage with the diesel. But the BMW X5 is $41000, for that price, you'd be better off with the BMW

I think JEEP missed the mark on this one. They were better off putting a Diesel in a vehicle like the Liberty and keeping the price around $25,000 US...For that matter the Compass and Patriot should have come with small diesel torque monsters too!

I disagree with the above posters. I own one of these and think it is an amazing vehicle, worth every penny that I paid for it.

This is my 5th 4x4. My last was a 4 runner. I can in all honesty say this is the best truck I've owned. The engine and tranny work wonderful together. After a 1000 miles I'm getting 21 miles to the gallon in the CITY 26 on the highway with gobs of torque on hand. The brakes are the best I've ever had the pleasure to use, cars included and the quadradrive is the best 4x4 factory system available.
The downfall is the cheap vinyl interior which is my only issue uptil this point.

I bought the new Grand Cherokee 3.0 Diesel in June and only have 450 miles. The yellow svc eng light is on as well as the red light indicating a fuel system problem. Dealer seems lost and says it is the particulate filter and they have no idea how long it will take to get, been a week and they will not even give an estimate. Anyone else have this very frustrating problem?? Is there a solution?

I have a 3.0 CRD. Great machine except that the Tow hitch is very high off the ground. Even with a 8" drop goose neck is still too high. Any ideas ?

I own a 2004 Grand Cherokee..Great truck in every way but I was wondering if anyone noticed that this and other chrysler models from the last few years have chrome decals that are pealing off. It looks really cheap for a 40,000 vehicle. We just took it in to have all recall work done and of course it is not covered under warranty nor is the peeling chrome on the $471.00 wheels. Any thoughts?

Just got my brand new Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD S-Limited a week ago. It is my first experience with the Chrysler / Jeep brand, and it replaced my old 2003 Mercedes 270 ML CRD.

The ride is very smooth, the suspension much better (softer) than the ML, the quadradrive II transmission is fine, the torque is fantastic on this diesel engine. By the way, it is a Mercedes engine, the same they use on the E- and M-class and maybe other models.

With much higher gas prices in Europe than in the US, the diesel is a better option, you get much better mileage for your money. Modern diesel engines can compete with regular gas engines in terms of performance and smooth, quiet ride any time.

Two things are somewhat negative on the GC, the interior - especially the seats - has a somewhat 'cheap' look and feeling to it compared to European SUVs, and it is a pity that Jeep still only uses the Mercedes 5-gear transmission whereas MB uses a more sophisticated 7 gear transmission box on their new models.

Otherwise, I am very happy with the GC.

For Ron b, did you put Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel in it? That will make that light trip and plug up the particulate filter quickly. Happened on our company's new 6.7 Cummins cuz we continue to employ morons(not hinting you are). This is easy to do. One fill up on the wrong fuel, and it will trip all the computer junk, but shouldn't require a whole new DPF.

I love my 08 CRD, bought it 3 weeks ago. Crossed shopped other cars/suv's and my better half's impression of diesel was my company truck-06 F350 power(joke)stroke. She drove the Jeep and loved it. I like the power, don't care about mileage cuz i was looking for a hemi(wanted to modify it up), and most of all she's happy, so that means I'm happy. A little depressed I had to trade my 06 Acura TL, but oh well. This is my 4th jeep, and 8th in the family. Currently have a 93 and 96 Limited 5.2gassers with over 400,000 miles between the two. Take care of 'em, they'll take care of you. Do wish it had the 7spd, but I plan on keeping this one a couple hundred thousand miles.

I have had an 08 CRD since November 07. I can't say anything good for this vehical. I have had 3 transmissions the entire fuel system replaced twice and as far as the MPG, Never seen anything above the teens 13 city, 17 highway. Transmission still doesn't engage properly and it has massive delays for turbo spool up. If I could get rid of it I would. Fortunatly I only leased the POS. I agree completely with the CHEEP interior as well. The traction control needs to be turned off if you get into serious mud or you won't be able to move due to the traction control. By the way this has all happened with less than 5000 miles on it. The first 6 months it was in the shop more than out.

Most of the people writing these comments should riding on donkeys. I own a 2008 Grand Cherokee and love it. I have owned several vehicles and this one is a good one. Traction control is the wrong term for ESP. The ESP system in the Jeep is one of the best in the world, I have tried to loose control by oversteering in snow and it always corrects itself. The ESP off switch is for use in mud or snow at lower speeds, thus the option to switch it off. I suppose you people have never owned a gas SUV or p/u, that is a POS milage. The Benz diesel motor is ahead of its times for the North American buyer. The Petrol companies have brain washed the consumer with the bad press on diesel. Imagine if all of North America saved 30% more fuel how much money would be lost in revenue.

Hi Ron b, Did you ever find a solution to your problem? I have the same problem in my 2008 Grand Cherokee. The Dealer is arguing that I'm putting the wrong Diesel in and it's my fault there are problems ... but I know I'm putting in Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (I've taken samples from the pumps I use). Help!

I have a 2007 GC Limited/3.0 CRD with 55,000 miles on it. I have to say this is the funnest car I have ever owned. Currently, I am getting about 21-22 MPG in the city and about 25 on the highway and 30 MPG on mountain highways.
However, in the 2.5 years I have owned it, there seems to be no end to the mechanical problems. These range from front heat exchanger and A/C condenser leaks to engine control computer and wire harness replacements to injector wire plug problems to replacement of the transfer case, replacement of both front window regulators, complete replacement of the tire pressure monitoring system, transmission repair due to iron filings left from manufacturing, replacement of the shifter assembly, etc. In all, the car has been in the shop 23 times since I got it. I am really glad I got the extended warrantee. I keep hoping that these problems will finally be all repaired so I can just enjoy the car without having to be concerned about reliability.

mine continues to go to the shop, with the same indicators. they have replaced just about everything under the hood...still comes back, they have no idea, and the warranty ends in 2 months...

I disagree. There are many Jeep dealers verses far and few BMW dealers. I paid $19,999.00 for our GC Limited diesel. Great vehicle. Had one $7.00 warranty item in 24,000 miles.

Two things that could use improvement are: rear seat comfort and better MPG on the highway.

How many vehicles can you drive off the lot and two-three years later sell it for more than you paid for it?

We are very satisfied owners.

Daily Horoscope for February 12

Sagittarius

The day may start out on a high note, but sometime this afternoon you may be feeling uneasy. Not to worry, it's just the beginning of your lunar low cycle, which may drain your energy. This is just Nature's way of telling you to slow down and recharge your spiritual batteries. You may want to schedule time for a long bubble bath or a massage from your partner this evening.
