I just bought a 2001 Honda CRV for $13,000 two days ago, it has 65,000 miles on it. Yesterday I noticed my check engine light was flashing and the engine was kind of shaky -it had no pick up, it appears to idle low and seems to putt-putt- almost like it wants to stall. I'm bringing it back to the dealer that I bought it from on Monday but I don't feel like I can completely trust them. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong with it? Lisa

Valves need adjusted. Honda dealer told me I needed new fuel injectors....I got a 2nd opinion and learned that it just needed the valves adjusted and that they should be adjusted everytime you take your car in for service.

I have a 97 CRV with almost 180K miles. My Check Engine Light is a solid orange. One mechanic is telling me it's the distributor cap, plugs, and wire which I had just replaced 6 months ago. When I took it back to the dealer that replaced those items, they are telling me that the PCM needs to be replaced and gave me a quote of ~$900.

My wife drives a 2002 CR-V with 68K miles, the engine light came on about week ago, the dealer told her to wait about a good week before the light goes out by itself I have some doubts because the engine light means that there could be many different problems. Anyway has anybody been told the same by the dealer??

My check engine light came on and is not flashing. This happened after I threw the car into reverse while it was rolling forward (very very slowly). Then the "D" (for drive) was flashing. I turned off the car and now just the check engine light is on constantly. What should I do?

I think my dealer was trying to "hose me". They told me that one of my valves was too tight and that Honda recommended a cylinder head change, for $3000.00!!! I took it too the service station and they adjusted my valves and told me not too worry about it. I hope they're right. The dealer was the last one to adjust my valves but they couldn't tell me how they got tight.

I have a 2000 Honda Accord. The check engine light has been on for months. I took it tot the honda dealer yesterday and it costs $99 to run diagnostics. They said the engine valve lift was insufficient and airflow was insufficient. Ports are clogged. So for $406 they can order an EGR Kit and replace EGR value and drill out ports. If I choose to do this service within 30 days they will apply the $99 to the cost. I want to sell my car so I guess I have to do this since no one will want to buy a car with an engine light on!

Mine is a 2001 and my dad's mechanic told me that his friend, a long-time Honda mechanic, told him to tell me to sell my CR-V because that year has defective a defective head. He said they get warped and the car overheats and other nasty stuff like having to constantly adjust the valves and the head cracking, etc. happens. 6 months later I blew my head gasket and Honda wanted to charge me 5 grand to fix it. My dad's mechanic wouldn't have anything to do w/ it. I found a mechanic to mill the head and replace the head gasket for $1500, but it's still acting up. He's had to adjust the valves 3 times in a month. I should have listened to my dad's mechanic. Everything he said it coming true. Sell it. Lucy wrote: I think my dealer was trying to "hose me". I just bought a 2001 CRV, manual drive, last month. It has 53000miles in it and I am the 3rd owner. So far what I have done was, charge it with freon, take it to the dealer and do some preventive maintenance on it. What I did was to personally watch the mechanic as he did all the needed checkings, I threw in some of the problems I saw for myself, but the thing is, I don't think he would have seen if I have not mentioned it. Also, I tried to check all his recommendations for replacement or repairing in actual and judged if it was necessary or not. My point is, you cannot trust the mechanic. If you don't feel uncomfortable, get a 2nd opinion, chances are, you will have more confidence to judge

The check engine light of my 2002 CRV came on yesterday and checking the gas cap and tightening 3 plus clicks did not make it go off. I am keeping an eye on temp gage in case it is the engine, but how can you tell if it is serious or just an emissions system fluke? Help!

I tkink you can go to Auto Zone ,and they will plug a code reader in for free. Are you can buy one for about $100 bucks.
