2001 Honda Odyssey Power sliding door trouble

The power sliding door on the driver side does not open and close. The "sliding door light" is illuminated. I have checked the fuses, but I don't see any that are burnt out. The passenger side sliding door works fine.
What else could be the problem? |

2 The same thing happened to me this past Saturday Feb. 18th. Try doing the following: 1.) Disable the power door switch on the left dashboard. 2.) Remove the power door fuses located under the front passenger leg area. 3.) Manually open and close both sliding doors. 4.) Restore the power door fuses located under the front passenger leg area. 5.) Enable the power door switch on the left dashboard. 6.) Try opening the sliding doors. |

1 Thanks so much for this tip. I am so proud that I was able to fix the door. Your tip worked just perfect. I had brought in the car with the sliding door problem to a special "Diagnostic Electric Auto Repair" shop. He charged me $40.- and was not able to find the problem. He wanted me to bring the car back to check further. So thanks for saving me further expenses. |

Best tip ever! I just pull out #13, waiting 30 seconds and put it back in. I've spend hundreds at the dealer to fix this same problem.

Add star washers to the motor and switch grounds at the frame. You can find these on the side pillars (between the front and rear doors) and in the rear pillars (behind the rear doors). Sounds crazy, but I did this and averted a $400 repair from Honda and they have worked find for 2-years. -GRIT |

Wow! It worked for me, too. After months of frustration, and what I figured was a failed door motor, this simple procedure did the trick. Glad I ran into this.(So is my wife; she no longer has to climb over the seat from the other side to strap in our youngest kid...) --S |

Steve. You are the man! I never have a problem that has been fixed by checking out a forum. I can't imagine what the dealer would have charged! Thanks a ton |

It works! Thanks a million! |

Thank You!!
I was ready for a big bill and a big pain the rear and I found this site, went outside, and fixed the door. Awesome! |

Problem with power sliding door. On our 2000 EX Odyssey, the passenger side power sliding door closes but not quite all the way, it will not "engage", or "catch". Therefore, the van thinks the door is still open (open door light is on, buzzes continually when put into gear, and interior lights stay on). However, the power sliding door INDICATOR light is NOT on, so the van thinks the door is fine, but still open. I have to get out, walk around, and physically BUMP the rear of the door the final centimeter or so to get it flush. For some reason the back lock part isn't "catching". I've tried the #13 fuse, cleaning everything, etc. Any ideas?

I have a '99 Odyssey EX with the same problems. Six trips to dealer and both door latches replaced yet still have problems. Honda wants to ignore the problem because there are millions of Odyssey's on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will force Honda to fix it but only if they see it as a ***SAFETY*** defect affecting many vehicles. The NHTSA has only had a few complaints so we all need to file complaints to make them aware of how large a problem this is. You can file a complaint by phone or on the NHTSA web site. Here is a link with more info:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ IMPORTANT: The NHTSA is only concerned about safety, they don't care how much you've spent in repairs. Be sure to stress the safety hazards (doors not being secured, having to drive with door ajar and switch off so buzzer shuts off, kids trapped in vehicle, etc.) and the dealers' inability to fix the problem. |
